Hey RedSox!
Good to have you around!

Dale, don't forget your starting weight tomorrow! Thanks.

Ok, I got my email for the state of Indiana...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Week 1: Move More, Eat Better!

Getting Started: In order to lose 10 pounds in 10 weeks you will need to increase your daily activity (burn 250 more calories a day), decrease the number of calories consumed (eating 250 fewer calories per day), and establish a consistent fitness routine. Be sure to consult with your physician before undertaking a new exercise routine.

Fitness Tips

Establish a consistent fitness routine! If you are already an active individual, keep up the good work and try to increase your exercise duration by five minutes each week. No matter what your favorite activity is, walking provides an excellent daily opportunity for improved health. We have a great fitness walking plan for people who are just starting out. This walking program is designed to progressively improve your fitness by increasing duration and frequency over the next 10 weeks. You can measure your progress by wearing a pedometer or timing yourself. Here are a few helpful tips to get you started:

Don't take the shuttle from your parking area to the office; instead, WALK.
If your parking is close to your office, pick a space that is far away.
WALK briskly around the mall or office during a break or after work.
Don't forget to take the stairs!
WALK up and down every aisle at the grocery. You've easily earned 10 minutes of walking!

Week 1: Walking Goals

Week 1
Duration (mins/day): 10-15
Frequency (times/week): 3

Nutrition Tips

Don't Skip Breakfast! Eating breakfast is one of the smartest things you can do to lose weight or maintain current weight. Breakfast calories provide satiety - the feeling of fullness and satisfaction - that can help prevent overeating throughout the day. Eat breakfast at home or at work!

Any breakfast choice is better than no breakfast at all. The latest scientific studies indicate the best breakfast choices include FIBER and LEAN PROTEIN to provide maximum satiety.

Cereal, Milk & Fruit - Choose cereals with at least 3 grams of fiber in a serving, like oatmeal or raisin bran. Use fat free skim milk and top with fiber-filled fresh, canned or frozen berries or fruit of any kind.

Breakfast Sandwich or Wrap - Fiber-rich whole wheat flour tortilla, bagel or English muffin with a scrambled egg, reduced fat cheese and a high-protein, low-fat breakfast meat.

Fruit, Fiber & Yogurt - Mix fiber-filled wheat germ, ground flaxseed or granola with fat free yogurt and stir in fresh, frozen or canned fruit or berries.

Cut Out Extra Calories - By simply leaving butter off of your toast, lunch snacks, and dinner rolls you cut out over 300 calories a day.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, so this was all fine and good, however I expect you to do more than this! I expect at least 30 minutes of cardio 4-5 times per week, if not daily. And I expect you're not using butter on your toast, lunch snacks, and dinner rolls anyway. If you haven't been properly introduced to spray butter, then allow me to introduce you.

In addition, I really liked Dale's state homepage. They had some really good ideas, such as:
eating at the kitchen table WITHOUT the tv on.
stop eating before a certain time every night.
cut back on sweets to one time a week.
limit fried foods to only one time a week or month.

I really need to cut back on my fried foods and my sweets. I've gotten BAD about that lately and I need to get that in check quick!

So keep chugging your water, do at least 4 days of 30 min of cardio, and cut back on something bad from your diet! That's what we'll aim for this week!

Hi RedSox! Welcome to all the newbies! Hope you guys are ready for a Choco challenge because she doesn't play!

Choco - I love, love, love the nutrition tips...sound advice for a change. Even when I try to stay off the soap box, sometimes the stuff I see floating around on the internet makes me cringe.

Chester - How are you doing with the fiber?

Welcome back to our ladies that have been MIA...we missed you!

We had beautiful weather here today so I took advantage of that and went bike riding for an hour. I had a great time! I need to hurry up and post this before I lose it. My internet explorer is acting up and keeps shutting down.

Hey Choco, my starting weight is 174.5.

So I did 30 minutes on the treadmill tonight with weights while on the treadmill and I did my Ab lounger after that. Huge step for me cause I can't tell you the last time I worked out. I had steamed veggies and pasta for supper. I didn't get as much water in today as I needed to.

Well, back to watching the big game, GO TIGERS. I am not an LSU fan, just an SEC fan when they are playing other conferences, I am really an ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE fan. I am sure none of you care though, ha ha!

Exclamation Hi All
I did great on burning calories today. Firm DVD + 2 hours outside work + walked 3 miles and up and down the bleachers 10 times. So, of course I did not have any problem drinking my water.

Have a great evening. TTYL

Hey guys. Just a quick check in before bed. I did the E for 45 minutes, arms, and got all my water in.

IM - Yes, I boiled all 60oz of the water, then filled up the rest of my jug with tap water.

Lovn - Today I kept track of my fiber, so it's funny that you asked. I got 14g in just from what I ate. I know that I'm going to have to supplement if I want to get even close to the recommended daily amount. That's hard to do with just food alone.

Talk to you guys tomorrow.

Hey Choco - can i join the challenge? I promise to try and be good this challenge

My starting weight is 191 lbs. I'm excited about this challenge, it definitely sounds doable, the move more and eat less bit. I might be travelling from 31st Jan till 17th Feb but I will keep up with this challenge as much as I can.

Ok, have to run - a million things to do. By the way, LOL at the comment on you guys drinking pee. My herbalife tea looks something like that too.

I'll try to BBL

Well C-Lo, I guess you can join...but only because you promise you'd be good. Just try to keep the main goals of this challenge in the back of your head while you travel. Keep saying to yourself, "Eat better, move more, eat better, move more, eat better, move more..." When you break it down to something as simple as that, it's easy to keep it in your mind.

Great job on workouts Chester, LZ, Dale and Lovn!! (Especially Dale since it's been a while! I'll bet you're gonna be sore today.) Let me tell you, I felt like crapola yesterday. You all know I've been hanging on to this back pain thing for a while now (since July). Yesterday was brutal. My back was killing me. But I kept thinking to myself, "I have to get a workout in! Today's the first day of the 10 in 10 challenge! I have to do it no matter how terrible I feel." So I did. I came home and walked 10 minutes on the treadmill until hubby got home. We walked 15 minutes with the dog outside, then I got back on the treadmill after dinner for another 25 minutes at a super high incline. So yay for me too!

Today, in order for me to eat better, I am going to throw out the Christmas candy that kept calling my name last night. And to move more, I am taking my gym clothes with me to work so I can go directly there.

What little steps are you all going to take today to eat better and move more?

Have a skinny day!
Hugs!

Good morning.

Today in order to eat better, I am going to quit eating by 7:30 pm. This may seem late to most, but I have had an extreme late night eating problem lately. So this is my first attempt at getting my eating cutoff time down.

I haven't decided on my workout today. I'm due a day off, but may not take it since I'm not sore at all.

Choco, great job on working through the back pain. Hopefully, the exercise will make it feel better.

I love your ticker. I was going to put a car on my track, but I liked the motorcycle picture. Do I like motorcycles? Not necessarily. I do like horses and cars.

Have a great day all. Off to the orthodontist with son this morning.

Morning y'all!

I was really hoping my coffee would be ready this morning when I got up, but it's just now beeping. grrrrr! I'm going to be out there with my E in the next 15 minutes. If I can do that, I have an entire hour to workout. I HAVE to get in another good one today because my booty is so sore I've got to get moving and work out the soreness.

Remember my mouse stories last year? Or was that the year before....hmmmm. Anyway, somehow a mouse has gotten itsself stuck behind my dishwasher and met it's demise. Talk about an eating detterant! I guess they are going to have to unbolt it from the cabinets and pull it out to get to the mouse and dispose of it. I think we had a wildlife population explosion this summer with all the rain. Coyotes, Fox, and mice are running amuck! Maybe they will keep down the populations of skunks and porcupines this spring. My chances of a workout outside in the early mornings is nill though. I'd hate to meet up with those creatures!

Ok, I'm downing my last cup.

Ok! I did 50 situps on a big ball....I can't remember what those are called but we've had one for years and years. Then I did 30 minutes on the E.

I have to say LZ and Chester, y'all are kicking my booty in workouts these days! WOOHOO!!! I'm getting back there, I'm just not there yet. It's surprising to me how fast my fitness level went in the toilet. I mean, just 3 months ago I had an almost 6 pack!!! Now I've got a 2 liter.

I'm having a real problem with my appetite. I always do. That's where phen always really helped me. I've always been able to eat just as much or more than hubby does in a meal. When I try portion control I end up binging later. GRRRR

LM, thanks for keeping tabs on me with myspace while I was mia here. You and Choco kept tabs on me.

Ok, off to get the kiddos ready for their first day back at school.
