Question Night Shift Anyone?
Hello All--Just wondering if anyone out there works night shift and feel like it is more of a challenge to lose weight on phen cause our metabolisms are slower than others? I need ideas on other ways to speed things up.

Hi! I just started yesterday 2/20. I used to work nights in the ER. I'm now and EMT/Firefighter and work 24 hour shifts every 3rd day. So, I know what you mean! I'll be 37 in a few months and I've hit the MIDDLE AGE SPREAD! My metabolism is at a stand still pretty much. I was working out 4-5 days a week and running 2 miles 5 days a week and still gaining. I find it VERY hard to find time now to workout. I try mostly power walking it's easy to fit in to my schedule.

Where in MD are you? we moved from there 12 years ago. We lived outside of DC.
Nice to meet you!

Hey!

Thanks for responding. I thought I was the only night shifter out there! I just went to 60 hours a pay period trying to work on the weekends to be home with my boys, AND have time to work out. Before I worked 4 nights a week, and just couldn't work out cause I was too tired. Took a pay cut, but it is worth it. Someone who is a fitness buff told me, that every little bit counts. If you walk 2 days a week, it's 2 more days than no days at all. It took me awhile to accept this cause in my head you have to be on the treadmill or something for at least 30 minutes and be drenched with sweat afterwards.

When it's not too cold, I walk to school to get my boys. It's 10 min each way. A few slow incline hills so my thighs are burnin' a little. 24 hour shifts are hard. My 12 are stressful I can't imagine. Can you work out on your days off? If your working out involves weights, that might be why you are gaining ( muscles you know?) Also, what about your diet? I know it's hard especially while working to eat right cause you don't have a microwave in the ambo, but maybe you could try eating at times that aren't late at night or eat smaller meals ( meaning snacks mostly) throughout the night. This might be possible with the phentermine on board.

Our lives are so different from others. Our metabolisms are probably slower cause of the night work. We have to work harder. Let me know what you think!

Just a quick note between calls here........ I lived in Bowie!!!!!!!! My hubby was a Prince George's Co. officer. We lived right down from Upper Marlboro! That area and Bowie have grown SO much. I have friends that live in both Waldorf and St. Mary's. We also have 2 guys here at the fire dept that worked for PG fire dept, each for years.

What a SMALL world. I'll answer the rest when I'm off tomorrow! I'm pooped right now. I'm gonna try to catch a few hours sleep.

Take Care
Sheri

Night shift worker, here. Luckily the hospital I work in has a gym for employees to use for free. I go in the mornings after I finish my 12 hour shift. Sometimes it's hard because I'm drained after a long night, but I try to make myself go most mornings. This past weekend was tough for me though. It was my first weekend on Phen and I felt so much more drained than normal, so I only went to the gym Sunday morning. I hope the 2nd week will be much better for me.

Hey Lori!

Nice to hear from you! What area do you work in? I am in labor and delivery. I don't know how you are able to workout after working. I just can't do it. I try to work weekends so I can be home with my boys and workout when they are in school. I weigh in tomorrow. I am excited. Keep in touch!

P.S. Do you take your phen while you are at work or soon before you work out so you will have energy?

Hey ya'll. I'm a dispatcher and I work 2 weeks on first and then 2 weeks on third shift. This night shift stuff ****S!! When I'm on 3rd, I walk after I get up and then I get ready and go tot work. When I'm on first, I get up at 3:45 am (oh it's hard) and walk for 1 hour then get my shower and I'm at work by 6 am. I have trouble finding time to walk after work. When I get off, I pick up my son, go home change clothes, and get supper going. Then I clean up the kitchen, wash the youngen, and we go to bed by 9pm.
I've found that I have more energy during my "day" if I exercise in the morning.

TAKE A STAND AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE!

I work on the SNF unit. I take the Phen when I wake up in the evenings before going to work. On my off days, I go home and sleep a little and then take it when I wake up. I usually get back on a "normal" schedule on my off days and sleep at night, so I take it in the morning when I get up.

Hi sizzle!

Welcome! My advice is, make sure you are drinking at least half your body weight in water in ounces. Easy to do when you are on the go. A few gulps here and there between tasks. Definitely take advantage of your days off to exercise and eat as well as you can (I know sometimes it's hard during work to eat on a particular schedule, but make sure you have small snacks you can put in your pocket or stash where you can grab it to keep the sugar up) and try to make things as healthy as you can. (so easy to grab whatever is there).

Glad you are here and keep us posted!

Howdy neighbor! I'm in Old Town, Alexandria, just a hop skip and jump from you! I too, work an odd shift. 3 days a week, 14 hour days......11 am - 1 am.

I found that if I pop my dinner phen, then go to the gym, work out an hour, then eat my dinner at my desk, it helps save time. Noone wants to workout after work. If we did, we'd be up 5 or 6 hours later, as we'll be wide awake and having huge adrenaline rushes. Working out at dinner time not only helps curb the appetite, it gives me the needed umph to get through the night.
