graphic....i know that we are our own hardest critic but honey i do see a difference. go to walmart and pick up some dog food that equals 30 pounds and walk around the store with it for awhile and you will see the difference that 30 pounds make. from looking at the 2 pics you are smaller so congrats to you and be happy about it and keep doing what you've been doing. you might not be able to see it just yet but just know its working.

libby congrats on the 13 in 6 days, thats awesome.

Red face 100 lbs to lose
I too have been heavy my entire life. So I do not know a good goal weight for me. I have been told that I have been "blessed" to have my mom's 5 foot 2 height, and my dad's 6 foot 3 bone structure. So I am the ever popular "big boned" gal! I am thinking around 160 or so, but not so sure. I have not been able to lose more than a few pounds here or there.

I cannot find anything to link what caused the weight, because I have had weight my entire life. I was an extremely active child, but still overweight. Then as I got older, it stayed the same.

I have been exercising 4-5 times a week, an hour a day, with a church group, and they rotate cardio, and strength training, since the first of November. My doctor told me that swimming was the only way to lose weight. Not much help, since I am not much of a swimmer. He told me my body type (which he could not explain any further) doesn't work well with exercise, and I would not see typical results. (boy was that reassuring).

I know that inches matter too... since November, I have only seen a pound loss, but have seen 4 inches off my waist. Now, since I have seen a different doc in the practice, she recommended the Phen, to give me a boost.

Any other tips would be greatly appreciated.

journey...welcome to the board. im glad you changed docs because the last thing you needed was sour advice. i think the phen would be a good boost for you to jump start you weight loss. one thing you never mentioned was your eating habits. your exercise routine sounds fne but how is your eating?

Default eating habits
My eating habits changed when I found out I was diabetic. I was put on watching my carbs. I have to eat a certain amount of carbs for my 6 meals, or my insulin works against me. Go figure, if I don't eat enough, my weight goes up.

I am supposed to eat 2-3 carbs for breakfast, 4-5 carbs for lunch and dinner, and 1-2 carbs for three snacks.

Prior to the phen, I tried weight watchers, which is pretty similar, a carb and a point, are pretty much the same. Not much success.

I would eat a bacon and egg sandwich on wheat toast for breakfast, and a low sodium V8 juice. Then about 2 hours later, I would have a granola bar. Then for lunch, I usually brought from home a cup of a casserole that I made the night before. Then for afternoon snack, either popcorn or pretzels. For dinner, I just ate smaller portions of whatever I made for dinner. Then I would skip my evening snack. I wasn't hungry.

I think part of my problem, was sometimes when I came home from work, I felt famished, and would snack while I cooked (I know, very bad habit).

My new problem arose, when I switched jobs. I went from sitting at a desk for 8-10 hours a day, to sitting at a desk 3 hours a day, and driving a truck 6 hours a day. This really put a kink in my habits.

I am adjusting, still, and trying to figure out easier, better ones, because the 6 meals a day, is not very easy when you are driving a truck, and not able to eat.

Again, any helpful hints would be appreciated.

Thanks everybody! Ya'll always have such encouraging things to say... thank you all! I'm feeling so excited about my progress now and I can wait until I can post another set of before/after pictures. Whoo!

Welcome, NewJourney! Good work getting a new doctor... we all need to do the best to keep positive people in our lives and getting rid of (or at least ignore) the toxic people. Easier said than done, I know! Anyway, it sounds like you're doing pretty well dieting while managing your diabetes. I know that's got to be very hard to keep up with. I think a lot of us have seen the quickest results with low carb diets, but there's more than one way to skin a cat! Good luck and keep us posted on how you're doing!
