Much to my disappointment, I wasn't able to take Phentermine due to the serious side effects I was having while on it. I wasn't sure if I wanted to try another med to help or keep trying on my own but I knew that trying on my own just wasn't cutting it.
My weight doctor told me to try Tenuate. He said it was similar to the phentermine, just not as strong.
I went ahead and decided to try it..
I noticed soon that it definately isn't as strong as the phentermine. The phentermine had my appetite so suppressed that I'd had to force myself to eat it seemed. (the big plus is that I wasn't having the side effects like with the phentermine!:) )
With Tenuate, I feel some hunger and in a way now I find it a good feeling. I was worried about feeling the hunger at first but I did notice that I wasn't as hungry as when I'm not taking the tenuate. So soon my worries settled as I knew I my amount of food was more easily controlled. Even though I felt some hunger, my appetite wasn't huge and that was good.
Now it seems it's leaving me a lot of options to explore new and healthy ways to eat. I feel like I'm getting a chance to really think about everything more clearly and not obsess and make big mistakes like I did when I wasn't having the help of Tenuate.
It's not a bad thing! :) To me, it doesn't seem as strong as the Phentermine but yet it still helps and I'm learning to let the lesser strength work for my benefit. :)

i took tenuate for a while and at frist i really liked it. but i had been on phen for about 2yrs. and had gotten to the point where it wasn't working for me anymore. i was only taking a half a pill and had been doing that for over a yr. just to maintain. when i came off of phen i waited for about 4 months before i tried tenuate. i had gained about 10-15 lbs so i wanted something. like i said before...it worked great, but only for the first month. i lost 10lbs then it died down and i didn't lose anymore. when i went online and started reading about it, i learned that it is ONLY a short term use pill. and stops working after about 2 months. that may be something you want to check on.
good luck!!

Phentermine is to curb your appetite, it is just a tool in the change of life. You have to learn to eat healthy, exercise to lose the weight, but after you reach your goal you have to have learned these tools to maintain it or other wise the weight will come right back. Any med you take is just a tool to help, but the real challenge is learning to eat healthy and maintain it afterwards.
Good luck on the new med. I hope that you achieve your weight loss goal and maintain it!!! You can do it!!!

Thanks for replying to me. :)
Kelmhand~ You're right, it is meant for short term and it is good for ppl to know that. Thanks!
I never thought I'd be taking a pill like this for long term. I've taken phentermine before (over 6yrs ago) and used that short term with no bad side effects then. It had helped me tremendously and it shocks me today that I couldn't go back to using it when I needed. I didn't think I'd let myself get to where I thought I needed it again but things in life change and I guess the body just changes over time and sometimes things we thought we could do or use, just aren't possible anymore.
For me, it seemed like the Tenuate was my last chance.. I know it's short term so I'm going to try and do my best to make that time count and keep what I'm learning to last me a life time. If I'm serious about this, it can happen. I just needed a tool to help me get my motivation back. :)
Lilmistgl~ What a beautiful reply. You make me smile and I thank you again! I'm definately going to keep trying no matter. I'm definately thankful I can use the tenuate as a tool to help. I'm very serious about making this work for me. I just gotta remain strong and keep my motivation from leaving me.:)

I wish you the best of luck!! I would love to keep in touch, if for no other reason just to see how you do on the tenuate. I really hope that it will help you in the way that you are needing it to!!

Kel~ Thanks again, I really appreciate your reply. I'm definately hoping it will help me in the same way. :) I will admit that I am worried due to this being active for such a shorter amount of time as the phentermine, so it feels like there is a bit of a rush to get things right with myself and eating.
But if I stay strong and can find the support, I should be able to do this.
I wish you the best of luck!! I would love to keep in touch, if for no other reason just to see how you do on the tenuate. I really hope that it will help you in the way that you are needing it to!!

I just started on Tenuate on 6/24 and so far I am down 5lbs. I am sure that it is only water-weight but I feel pretty good and very energetic. I know its a short term use pill so I hope I can get great results from it before moving on to the Phentermine.

I just got home with Tenatute. I wanted Phentermine but my blood pressure was high and he wouldn't give me any. I forgot that when I am in pain my blood pressure usually goes up and I should have cancelled the appt. I am going to my doctor tomorrow to get something for this pain. I over doing it in the gym and doing Zumba and my knees are hurting so bad I can't go up or down the stairs. When the nurse ask me about my blood pressure I didn't remember that when I hurt from my arthritis my blood pressure goes way high. Anyway, I am not sure about this pill. I tried Medira for a month and it didn't do anything for me. If this doesn't work then I will go back to WW and except that I can't lose more than 25 pounds.
