Hey all!
Ok so I finally found a doc in the Houston area that I think I like. Here's what they're offering:
physical exam and blood work
Prescription for adipex or phen (not the pills--just the prescription to get filled)
multivitams
Lipo B injections
For $99.
From those of you who do not have insurance, how much did getting a prescription generally cost you? I've heard around $30, just seeing if this was true for others.
Thoughts on this? Experience with Lipo B injections? Its Houston Weight loss and Lipo center---anyone in Htown have an experience with them?

Hello I Live in Saint Louis,MO and I have no medical insurance:( I got my adipex from a well known doctor here and I had to pay $150 for my first appt which only included advice, blood work, and the prescription. I dont even know if he does the shots everyone talks about but thats all I got!! He also gave me a coupon to use with it or it would cost about $90 bucks!! With the coupon I paid $47.50 which I think is still high compared to other people who have said that they only pay around $13 to $20 dollars for. Every visit after that is $65 dollars and he has me coming every month I have only been on Adipex since Feb 25,2010 and have to go back on Mar 26,2010. When I go back Im going to ask for a 2 month prescription cause this is really costing me!

WOW...I'm shocked at how different the cost is between everyone!!
I paid $210.00 directly to the doctor office and that included the "consultation" (which was held 3 patients in the room at a time and lasted less than 5 mintues), blood work, and he provided the actual pills- a 28 day supply and then he seperatly wrote a script for Wellbutrine. He told me and the two other patients that he thinks Phen works good WITH wellbutrine, but I'm not taking that.
Then, in less than a month, I have to go back for another appointment to be 'checked' and get the new 28 days worth of pills. Not sure what this visit will cost, but I doubt it will be cheap.
I'm confused about all of this....I gave them my insurance card, so I'm not sure why I had to pay soooo much??!!

It is amazing how doctors charge so differently. I paid $250 for my initial visit and $85 for every follow up which is once a month. And that doesn't include the pills, I just get the written prescription.
As far as the cost of the pills, I pay $17 for the 37.5 tablets (45 pills) and $18 for the 30 mg capsules (30 pills.) Someone on this site had posted information for a drug card that you can download and I did that so it really helped. If I hadn't used it, I would have paid almost $120 for my pills. The website is freedrugcard.us and it has worked for me just like it shows on the website. You just enter in your name and e-mail address.
Hope that helps!

My initial Dr. visit consisted of vitals, ekg , intro, and a b-12 injection for $125.00 including a Prescription for the Adipex 37.5 Mg (30 pills) the prescription for the B-12 to give the shots at home weekly, and a water pill.
I filled my prescriptions at Walmart for a total of about $38.00(for all 3).
Supposed to go back monthly for the renewal on the prescription at a cost of $40 per month.
I began the whole process on 3/17/10 and to date have lost 9 lbs. Just did the my 2nd B-12 injection this morning.

Ally- you are right, I'm gonna look into this matter. It is a weight loss clinic that is across the hall from this doctor's office, and it's his "clinic." I think I forgot to mention that they did do a B12 shot, in that price. But like you said...this makes no sense if I have insurance and my insurance is a PPO and I should have just paid for a "specialist" right? I don't know...I'll see...when I go back in a couple weeks, I'm gonna ask them all about it.
Good luck with your quest!!

My first consultation was $25..which included a long lecture from the dr. about loving yourself will be the key to success in our(there was two other patients in the room with me) weight loss journey and the prescription...we go back monthly for weigh-ins and new prescriptions and pay $10. I filled my prescription at Costco and it came out to $13.22 for the 30 day supply.

My dr before she moved was covered under my insurance because she filed it under insulin resistant. Now that I have gained weight since my surgery, I've had to see a weight loss dr who if you do not know by now is more expensive than if your primarty dr. will write the script for you. My first visit was 149$ thats for 3 scripts of phentermine and that also included lipo supplements with 2 of the injections. Freds in my area has 30 adipex 37.5 mg for 11.00 thats cash not a copay. Sadly most primary phsyicians do not want to write for adipex due to the phen-phen problem and they may be habbit forming for some people, or the abuse of adipex by some. In my opinion my primary would save me tons of money if he wrote me the script to lose the weight, but then he'd lose money on all the co-pays he gets for me being overweight. Sorry got off track there :)
