Hey guys! I am new to the board and new to phentermine. I'm 32 years old, 5'3" and currently 180.6 lbs. My start weight was 185.6 lbs. I went to my ob/gyn back in February and she told me that I need to lose a minimum of 20 lbs. and to do it quickly. She let me try on my own for a while but it was the same old yo-yo routine so she prescribed 37.5 mg of Phentermine and said I could only take it for one month. I'm drinking 72 to 108 oz. of water daily, have cut back on my portions (although I was never a big eater to begin with) and I'm walking 1 to 4 miles every morning. I took my first pill last Monday morning (3/8/10) and as of this morning I have lost 5 lbs. My questions are: 1) how much weight can I really expect to lose in a month by taking phen; and 2) I've read some people say that they take it for a week and then stop for a couple days...what's the point in that? Does it help you lose more? Any advice or suggestions that people have please feel free to share!!

Every person is different and they lose weight at different rates. Some people have lost 10-15 pounds in a month and some have lost only 8. There is really no way to specify the amount of weight you will lose on Phen the first 30 days. Keep in mind that in the first week you will probably lose the most weight because it is probably all water weight. Your TOM will also can affect your weight loss so keep all that in mind. After the first week the weight loss will slow down but don't get discouraged.
All you need to do is follow your eating plan, drink the water and exercise. If you do that consistently the weight will come off. Don't beat yourself up if the weight isn't falling off as fast as you want. Just don't give up and be patient.
For example, my girlfriend lost 15 lbs the first month, then 6, then only 7 lbs the second. That's a big difference but it only shows you that there is really no set number of pounds you will lose each month you take Phen.
Also, in some people Phen will lose the effects it used to have because your body does get used to it. Some people "stop taking it" over the weekends or they take it for 3 weeks on and 1 week off just to give their body a break. then when they take Phen again, they start to lose again.
I hope this helps. Be patient and the weight will come off.
Good luck.

Thanks curvygirl!! The doctor's insistence that I lose weight quickly has me more anxious than I would normally be. But you're right, I have to be patient and consistent and it will come off! Thanks again and good luck to you too!!
