I am wondering if anyone has had success with using Phen for a short time to help develop better eating and exercise habits and been able to stop taking Phen and maintan weight loss without needing to go back on it?

I started taking it to help me learn proper portion sizes, learn calorie values, and get into an exercise routine. I'm hoping to be able to take it, get to my goal weight, then maintain the weight loss on my own with my new healthier habits.

In 2006 I took Phentermine for approximately 3 months and lost 35 lbs. After 3 months I stopped taking Phentermine...and lost another 10 pounds over the next couple of months.

In my experience, Phentermine helped me get control of my eating. After 3 months of Phentermine my stomach was smaller and I was satisfied with much less food. If you come off of Phen with the idea of "now I'm not dieting I can eat everything all the time again" you will probably gain some back....but if you continue to eat well and exercise you can definitely maintain...if not continue to lose those last few pounds.

I have kept the 45 lbs off for three years now. I am back on phentermine because I decided that my goal weight of 145 lbs was still a little heavy for me...(i'm only 5'2)...so I am trying to lose an additional 20 lbs. It's much slower this time around...but I will get there eventually. :)

Good luck on your journey!

i know this is an old post...but i wanted to just bump this topic up.

Its great that I will experience weightloss and with a lot of effort and patience I hope to reach my goal and keep it off. However, I have this lingering fear in the back of my mind....what happens if the weight comes back??

So far, in addition to seeing the weight loss doctor monthly...I am doing a 3 month program at my gym that includes me keeping a diet log in addition to cardio/weight training 3x a week (its been really helpful because it makes me accountable for EVERYTHING I put in my mouth ;)). If i'm not too worn out...I'll sneak in a spin class and I have swim lessons on Sunday mornings. The diet log has made me observe my eating patterns and I'm doing some behavior modification as well.

I think I will keep a diet journal after the 3 month program is over....and it may be something that I have to do for a while because it does hold me accountable for my dietary choices.

I know that phen is just a short-term weightloss tool...and i can't become dependent upon them. So I was wondering if there are any phen vets out there (1+years) share what they are doing to maintain their weight?

I took Phen last year for 3 months, after going off I not only maintained but lost additional weight. I was off Phen for 9 months! When I first went off I lost about 10 pounds and right before going back on I gained 3 of them back, but I would still claim a maintain not gain result because I was still lower than when I went off Phen in the first place. I think if you truely want it and you put all the effort into losing 50+ pounds, you're not going to easily put all that weight back on. You might slip a little sometimes but if you even begin to start heading down hill you'll recognize the signs and kick your *** in gear. See, the first time we all gained our weight we had never been fat before so we didn't know how bad it felt to be so overweight and have such low self esteem. Now we know what it's like on both sides of the fence so were not going to allow ourselves to be pushed over to the fat side so easily ever again! Once you know how it feels to be fat and you're able to get fit again, you're never going to want to go back again. I know we all worry about it, but remember stress makes your body hold onto fat so relax and remember how great you feel about yourself now :)
