I shouldn't really be saying anything as I am on Phen again and have gained about 15 pounds back from the original 60+ pounds that I lost in 2004-2005.
I did the original 2002 Atkins diet. I ate nothing processed, EVER, even protein bars. Cut out milk slim, whole, etc. If I ate dairy it was hard cheese, I cut out things that are are high in sugar-even natural sugar such as bananas, broccoli, carrots, squash, apples and avocados and kept my tomato intake down. I ate loads of leafy greens, lean meat and flax seed crackers and berries. That's what did it for me.
Going back on this medication will hopefully give me the drive to go back on that type of a diet again. I think it will, as already today I am having to force myself to eat. My four year old's ice cream does not have any appeal to me at all.
I would cut out anything processed and stay away from any type of "low-fat" foods that have added sugar.
That's just me. But once I get back on track, I am an extremist. I am right now looking at Suzanne Summer's books about food combining and food science right now. Frankly I did miss apples.
Good luck to you! You can do it!

I agree with keeping the carbs to a minimum and eating a lot of protein. For one thing, that will keep your blood sugar regulated so you should feel better overall. There are some great sites for food journaling, which I also recommend. You will plug your food (and drinks) into their system and it will calculate the calories for you so you can keep up with your consumption. Two sites I recommend are: myfitnesspal.com as well as sparkpeople.com. Both of these have tools that would probably be very helpful to you. One of those sites will tell you how many calories you should consume a day to reach your goal by a certain time period that you set. (within reason).
You said you don't drink any soda or tea, so that's a good start, anyway! I've learned a lot from this forum, one being that you shouldn't "drink" your calories. I was drinking about 800 calories a day worth of Sweet Tea and didn't even realize I was drinking calories at all...I hadn't even thought about it! So, drink LOTS of water!!! You will hear that a lot on this site. But it really is important. And by all means, be sure you get enough fiber in your diet because one of the side effects of Phen is constipation.
Keep in mind that whatever "diet" you decide to do, needs to be something that you can and will stick with for the long haul. If it is just another "diet", then once the weight is off, it will come right back if you don't change your thinking about food. This is something I didn't really "get" until I'd been on Phen and plugged into this group for a while. .Now I'm having to adjust my whole attitude and commit beyond the Phen...but commit for life!
Good luck to you on your exciting and life-changing journey. We're here for ya if you need us!
