Phentermine with Wellbutrin

Hi All- Wow!! I am new to this site and love reading all this sucess stories.

I took Phentermine about two years ago and lost about 50lbs in 4 months. I kept the weight off then gained it all back plus more after the death of my son. I got so depressed that everything-all the exercise, eating right, flew right out the door. I stopped the Phentermine in 6/08. My psych put me on Wellbutrin after my son died for depression. I am finally feeling much better and decided it is time for me to lose weight again. I am not comfortable in my own skin. :(

My question is- I am on Wellbutrin SR 150mg twice daily. I went to my weight loss doc today and he put me back on Phentermine 37.5mg once daily. Has anyone taken these two together? Did you have any adverse reactions? I am mainly worried about it making me moody, my husband is very worried about this also. Also, did you lose more weight with taking these two together? I have read a lot of info but it is all conflicting on whether or not these two work well together. Thanks for any advice.:o

I am currently on this combo, with the exception of 30mg instead of 37.5mg. It works fine for me. No extra weight loss that I have noticed, could be because I have been on the Wellbutrin for a few years. Hope that helps.

Thanks so much....well I guess I just get nervous about mixing different meds, but from what I read it seems to be okay as long as I watch to make sure my blood pressure is good.

What time do you take your pills? I started mine today but am not sure when to take them. I take one 150mg Wellbutrin around 8am, and other at 1-2pm. I am thinking of taking the Phen around 9am (I don't want to be up all night). What do you think?

I took Wellbutrin with phen-d (Bontril) and had no problems...except that I didn't lose anything. I stopped taking both after a while. I hated trying to remember two Wellbutrin pills, and the phen-d only worked for about two weeks at a time. Right after Christmas, I started on phentermine (with one of my docs) and then my regular doc put me on prozac. Again, I'm having no problems, and I've actually lost 7lbs of REAL weight, not just water.

I have to take phen pretty early (by about 730am), or I will be up all night. And even then, I sometimes I have to take one Excederine PM.

I was on the Wellbutrin and Celexa and the doc suggested I get off the Wellbutrin if I was starting the Phen.
I would definitely speak to a physician if you're going to do that.

Hmmm...I appreciate all the advice. From what I have read it is pretty safe to take these two together...there are no known interactions...I have checked with like 5 Pharmacies and I also asked the pharmacist at Costco where I got the Phen filled and he looked it up...he said it would be okay as long as I check my BP often and just listen to my body. Today will be my 3rd day and so far I haven't had any severe side effects...just slight headache, and tingling/cold hands and feet.

I went to the dr this week to start phen, and she took me off lexapro (she said there were some interactions) and put me on Wellbutrin. She said taking the two together would be fine.

how tall are you changes09? You are at the same start weight as me. What you said is exactly what I heard as well. I used to be on Lexapro and that's where I gained 40 lbs in a year. That's why my psych switched me to Wellbutrin and I love it...I started it two months ago and I have had no side effects on Wellbutrin.

I am intrested to see your weight loss. I wonder if the Wellbutrin actually helps the Phen. I was on Phen two years ago and it made me really moody...I have noticed since I started Phen 3 days ago that I have not be moody at all....yay me!

Question- what is your dosage of Phen and Wellbutrin? What time do you take each? My doctor is out of the office until Monday so I have just been taking them a few hours apart, but I don't know if there is a better way to do it or not. Thanks so much....Good Luck to you ;)

My dr prescribed 37.5, but for the first month she wants me to only take half of that pill so my body can adjust. I am taking 150 mg of Wellburin XL once a day. I am taking my phen around 11:00, just because I am only taking half a pill right now, and I want it to last as long as possible throughout the day. I take my Wellbutrin whenever throughout the day. I am around 5'3-5'4. I am hoping Phen will give me the help I need. I have never been this heavy before!!!

I know what you mean...this is the heaviest I have ever been in my life and it is sooooo depressing!

I was always the skinny girl (never over 115 lbs) growing up but that changed after I had kids and then my son died and I just didn't care anymore....I sank further into my depression and my weight kept going up and up.

I refuse to be unhappy anymore...If you work hard you can do it...and the Phentermine gives you that boost that you need to get started...just make sure you eat right and exercise...b/c after you stop taking the Phen you need to be in a routine so you don't gain all the weight back,

When I was on Phen two years ago...I got down to 137 and I was happy.

Just be deternined to lose weight and keep coming back to this site because everyone here knows how you feel and how difficult it can be...so we all will help each other through it..it's a good feeling realizing you are not alone. I wish you the best of luck.

Tammyleeps, first I want to say how sorry I am about your son. I lost my oldest son in 2002 and I know how deep you can sink into depression. I gained about 50 pounds in 6 yrs I did quit smokeing in 2003 and my weight has been up and down. I have taken wellbutrin on and off for about 4 yrs I now take the xl 150 mg 3 a day . And I was on phen 37.5 and I did not have any problems. I have been off phen since Nov. because I hurt my back. But I have been maintaining my weight so far. I plan on getting back on phen and hopefully reaching my goal. I wish you all the best .

Awww thanks Dnet...you are so kind. Sometimes it is just good to know there are other people that understand what you are going through. That's why I like this site- I don't feel alone anymore.

Congrats on keeping the weight off especially after having a back injury.

Just an update- I have been on Phen and Wellbutrin together for about 5 days now...and I am doing well. I haven't really had any side effects. A few little things but I don't think anything to worry about. I am glad to know there are other people on this combination that did okay...you know I always hear conflicting info but I really think it depends on the person too. Everyone reacts different.

Do you feel like you lost more weight being on the combination of these meds? or did it slow it down?
