Hey everyone, sorry so many threads I just have a bunch of questions that my husband obviously has no clue about any of this..... Should I buy a scale or wait til I go to the dr next? (22Sept) I know I will be anxious and want to know, but also don't want to get let down if I only lose 1 or 2 lbs!!! Thanks for everything

I say not to scale because if you're expecting a certain number and perhaps don't lose any weight it can be discouraging. Thats why I stopped exercising and eating right all the other times that I've failed. Wait for the doctor's visit.

I think the scale thing is a personal choice. If you know ahead of time that you're going to get on it with a certain expectation, and you know it will "ding" your motivation if it doesn't say what you hoped it would, then I'd stay away from the scale for a bit.
On the other hand, I'm a scale-a-holic. I weigh myself every morning. I guess there are folks that weigh more often, but I do weigh myself daily and even log it on a spreadsheet. However, I get on that scale fully accepting that PMS week will wreak havoc on my body (always does) and that a 1-3 pound weight fluctuation is totally a NORMAL part of this process.
I guess that didn't help much, did it.:confused: Anyway, I hope it did...and you should be congratulated for taking control of your health...keep to the goal as best you can. That's all you can do!

Im one of those people that get on the scale as soon as I get up, as soon as I get home from work and right before I go to bed. If the scale stays the same or goes UP a pound, I get in a bad mood. If it goes down, I get in a good mood. I think you should measure yourself and keep track of your inches, like once a week. I write my measurements down once a week, and I write my weight once a day. I agree with Sarenah, it is your own personal choice.

SCALE- AHOLIC here, Idont know I think its all what motivates you, me I weigh in a minimum of once a day that way if I gain from one day to the next I remember what I did or didn't do the day before to cause my gain. or loss !!!!

I think you should definately get a scale... I weigh every morning... its like a form of motivation! but you have to remember to weigh after you potty each morning to get an accurate weight daily... you WILL have days where you dont lose anything and you've done nothing wrong! do not let this discourage you!! you have to accept reality... we may lose 3 pounds one day and not lose anything the next eating and doing the EXACT same thing. if you go thru a phase where you arent losing weight for more than a week or two... try increasing your calories... i was told to do 600-800 (non-protein) calories per day for two weeks then increase to 1000-1200 calories for the third week... rotation is key so your body doesnt get used to the same diet... (non-protein calories are counted by multiplying the number of protein by 4 and subtracting that number from the calorie count. example: chicken breast 250 calories with 50 grams of protein; you would count only 50 calories.) stay away from starches as much as possible and you will be very successful! REMEMBER... you arent dieting but completely changing your lifestyle! good luck! *Brandi*
