Okay, so here's the problem.... my doctor will not prescribe me phentermine or any weight loss medication for that matter. I must have tried dozen of over the counter weight loss pills in my life and nothing works! How in the world have all you guys been prescribed phentermine by your doctor? What kind of doctors do you all have? Nowadays, doctors are very cautious about prescribing controlled substances. My doctor suggested I try some learned behavior therapy to help with my weight. I have already lost 30lbs since January, on my own, but I would like the aid of medication to help make it easier. I do not exercise, I never have. I even tried using Dr. B but when his office called the prescription in to not one, but two different pharmicies, both pharmisists refused to fill the order. Please, someone, shed some light. I know about online and how it is illegal and half the time you get scammed anyway. Can someone please suggest something.

Search for a medical weight loss clinic in your area. You should be able to find one in a search online. They usually state that they use prescription meds along with a weight loss program to help you lose weight. This is what they specialize in. Hope this helps.

First off, 30 lbs is great!!! Especially on your own. I know I can do it also because I lost 36 pounds 2 years ago through diet and excercise. I just needed something to give me a boost this time.

My dr would only prescribe it if my BMI was above 35 and my blood pressure was good. He made me bring him a food diary for a week prior to writing the prescription and he will only give 30 days worth at a time. I must seem him monthly to get the next refill for a total of 3 months.

I do not know how tall you are but your weight looks good to me. Maybe that is why he will not prescribe it to you. Good luck and keep up the good work!

I go to a weight loss clinic. I chose this route because I knew my primary doc, who is also a family friend, would turn me down before I could finish my sentence. I would recommend looking up medical weight loss in the yellow pages for someone in your area. Or ask around your circle of friends. In my area, So. Cal., there is not much advertising done by weight loss clinics. I got a referal from a friend. But, remember, you may still be turned down at a clinic. Especially if you are currently at a healthy weight.

I HEARD THAT MOST DOCTORS WON'T GIVE IT OUT UNLESS YOUR 50 pds OR MORE OVER WEIGHT,THIS MIGHT BE WHY. ALOT OF THEM WON'T GIVE IT OUT BECAUSE IT'S REALLY NOT THAT GOOD FOR YOU.

You can also look up bariatric doctors in additional to weight loss doctors. Some bariatric doctors specialize in procedures like gastric bypass, but you can also find doctors under this category who just deal with weight loss. For me, the key was finding a weight loss doctor in my area who had a Web site and talked about losing weight through liquid shakes. It didn't come right out and say phentermine on there, but after doing some digging on their site, I finally found where it said they prescribed it if you wanted it. Of course, this is after you have an EKG and are monitored regulary. At the weight loss clinic, they don't look to see if you are 50 pounds overweight. I think doctors that don't specialize in weight loss moreso go by this rule. But then again, it is up to that doctor as to whether or not he wants to prescribe it.

If your doctor won't prescribe it, have you tried your ob-gyn? Mine did, but only for one month. I have another friend whose ob-gyn gives it to her all the time and she is only 10 pounds overweight. As you can see, it varies from doctor to doctor.

My doctor only prescribed it based on my BMI, so if you are at a healthy BMI, they probably will not prescribe it.

Thank you all for your feedback. I'm only 4"11in and my BMI is considered overweight. For someone my height, the most I should weigh is about 118lb. That's another close to 20lbs more that I need to lose and I am just sick of this eating regimen that I have been on since January. I'm not saying that I want to eat bad, I'm just saying, it would be nice to have an aid to help me with the last bit of weight I need to lose. I did look up medical weight clinics last night after reading broccoliismyfriend's reply. I did contact one of them but have yet to hear from them. We'll see. I'll keep everyone posted. Thanks for the support!

Wow. So, I am not the only person that is 4'11" here? That makes me feel so much better. I started out Oct. 8th on phen. My starting weight which has been that way for over a year-2 years has been around 168-174lbs. I hated it. The most I weighed in high school was 160. I never could loose it. But then again, I guess I didn't care enough in school.

My family doctor prescribed my phen to me. I complained to him two months before about my weight. He tried to give me some advice on diets and stuff. No bread/pasta/starches diets and other things, but no matter what I did. So the last time I did go to get the phen, I asked him about it. Told him, people my height isn't suppose to weigh that. So, he was auto "yes... I can give it to you.." Surprised me. But I clearly made it a fact of my height and what my height was suppose to wiegh. Since then.. 22lbs down.. more to go.
