I've used phentermine off and on for the past 2 years. After a 9 month hiatus, and gaining my weight back, I'm at it again...this time to keep it off permanently. I've been on the medication again for 2 weeks, and have only lost 4 pounds. Then last night it hit me as to why I've had a problem with losing the weight this time....My downfall has been Sonic 80 cent sodas! I didn't think I was drinking that much soda per day. Last night I figured up how much soda I'm drinking everyday....3/4 of a GALLON! No WONDER!
So, today is my first day w/o pop....does anybody have any suggestions on how to get through the withdrawals? I figure others here have given up the soda...so maybe there are some tips and suggestions? I found diet soda makes me more hungry...so I want to keep soda out of the diet completely.
I do work full time as a massage therapist, so I won't have a problem at work, but I know once I'm home....the withdrawals symptoms and craving of sugar is going to be overwhelming.
Thanks in advance to anybody with a tip for me. :)

Hi there...well I was really really addicted to mt. dew! talk about the worst of the worst! LOL i went a couple weeks w/o one at all, but now, i will occasionally have a litte mt. dew, but nothing like I used to...so you don't have to deprive yourself completely, just in moderation...but otherwise I drink green tea, or even if you wanted to start off w/regular ice tea, no sugar or anything, just regular. But I know for me at least the cravings go away after awhile...oh too, i don't drink it but a lot of people around here on the forums drink flavored water, or the crystal light stuff too, hope it helps, let me know how it goes...and hopefully your cravings will go away soon!!!

I quit cold turkey--lol. So the only advice I have is to get yourself a BIG box of Excedrin. :)

I know how you're feeling. I gave up sweets at the beginning of the week. Yes, on purpose! :) Monday was tough and Tuesday... OMG!! I felt like I was getting sick. I had zero energy from the sugar withdrawl. I knew it was just my body trying to trick me into my old ways. And going back isn't an option!! I'm glad that I stuck it out b/c I feel GREAT today!! STAY STRONG!!! I KNOW YOU CAN DO IT!!!

I also was adiccted to Mt. Dew. I began mixing half and half of Mt. Dew and Selzer water, then to Diet and seltzer water. Now only diet. I can't seem to totally get off completly. But, have seen a drastick increase of weight since I switched.

My drink of choice was Regular Straight up Coca-Cola!
I miss it yes! I also went COLD TURKEY! a year ago.
No real Sodas- Once in a great while I may take a small glass of diet soda if my stomach is upset or I'm out and I'm not paying $3.00 for a bottle of water.
It's hard yes, but you can do it!
Good Luck
Tina:)

Guess I'm a little late seeing this thread, ... so how are you doing now?
I say why put yourself through even more stress & pain?! I say decrease every day until it's nothing. Caffiene with drawl is the worst headache I ever had. UGH.

I was a diet soda juinkie, I tried quitting cold turkey and was MISERABLE.then I just cut back litle by little and I don't feel so desperate for it anymore......I an go a whole day without it, like today I didn't have any....so I guess I"m improving. Diet soda is SO BAD for us, I hope that one day I can get it out of my diet totally.

They have flavored sparkling water at almost any store. When I first did Atkins, it really saved me. Also, there are flavored powders that you can put in water that have no calories, carbs or anything. I get the ones from Walmart, they have different flavors and don't cost a lot. HTH!

stop cold turkey, drink a ton of water, and take some excedrin for a few days to get you through the headaches of caffeine withdrawal, by the end of the week, you won't even remember how it felt to drink soda.

I quit cold turkey a year ago (never lost a lb though) and it was hard because i was a waitress and the pop was free and Dew gave me energy to get through a shift, but i drink soda water instead, and like someone said adding flavored powder to water is good too, try adding them to soda water as well. drinking tea will help with the caffeene withdrawl and its better for you just dont drink too mucg tea caffeene is still anti-weight loss. Diet Rite soda is good, but their cola is not like real cola and i dont much like it, the only tasty one is the kiwi strawberry, or the white grape.
I just had to learn to like water...remember you'd rather eat your calories than drink them.
i also use slimfast as a meal replacement for breakfast and dinner and drinking meals seems to make me less thirsty overall. good luck to everyone on the pop situation.

I agree with what tinabean had posted, regular Coke is my downfall! The withdrawal does give you bad headaches, but it is worth it to not drink pop, I try to remind myself that it is saving my teeth also from the bac effects of pop!

Just a thought but, I don't eat any sweets anymore which is great for me because sweets were my addiction. Instead I let myself have one soda a day which I drink with a straw and that serves as my something sweet. I drink flavored water during the day too.

I love mineral water with lemon, lime, or blueberries!
Or start weaning yourself onto iced green teas!

I used to drink Mr. Pibb, you young folks call it Pibb Xtra... LOL.. I started getting a Sonic Route 44 Sweet tea, then I went to the unsweetened tea. Now I get a large cranberry juice from Sonic and drink it on my way to work. At work I just drink water. On my way home I make myself drink a bottle of water. I dont really like drinking water, but I lose weight faster if I drink it and go pee all the time!

I quit soda cold turkey also. But see by that time I had already weened myself off of regular soda's and was on just diet soda's. But 2 weeks before Phen I knew I was going to be giving up soda anyways. So I started drinking water instead of soda. Now that I'm on Phen I of course drink tons of water everyday. But if I do have a craving for soda I get a crystal light packet(the ones for your water bottle) and put that in my water. Its not soda BUT it does settle my cravings by giving my taste buds a smack of flavor. I hope this helps. Good Luck :)

Don’t drink mixed drinks with soda. This only applies if you’re a drinker, but it’s a big one. I used to drink Stoli Vanil mixed with vanilla diet Coke (while it still existed) as my drink of choice. Frankly, Stoli Vanil doesn’t mix well with juice, seltzer, etc. What’s the solution? I switched to drinking wine instead of vodka. It has some (somewhat unproven but reasonable enough) health benefits and it doesn’t need to be mixed with soda. That was a conscious decision to get away from drinking hard liquor, and killed two bad habits with one shot.
