View Full Version : OT- Women Smokers (I thought it was funny)

I was reading the Birmingham News tonight, and I ran across an article about tobacco companies marketing towards women. I skimmed it, but at the bottom they were talking about a study that was done that determined that women smoke to try and control their "neuroticism".
The study also found that you could gauge just how neurotic a woman is bases on the strength of the cigarettes she purchases. The more neurotic she is, the stronger the cigarettes she smokes! I just about DIED laughing right there... hehe..
I am a chain smoker, I will not lie, and I just switched from smoking Marlboro menthol milds to Marlboro reds, because the milds just weren't strong enough anymore... hehehe... I guess that means I am getting crazier!
I don't know how valid this study was, but I got a good laugh, at least. Thought any other women smokers on here might find it interesting, too. :D

I read something similar in my local paper this evening. I laughed untill I had tears then I went and asked hubby if he thought I was neurotic! He was like..."Ya, and...?". So, there may be some truth to this study! It also said something about how the tobacco companies are (and have been for years) trying to lure more women smokers in by enhancing cigs with flavor additives like strawberry and chocolate flavors then claiming that it helps reduce cravings and promotes weightloss! Boy, they sure know how to get ya...as if the nicotine wasn't enough to hook ya, now they gotta throw chocolate in the mix!

i am also a bad smoker and i want to quit so badly, i told my self that i would try and quit next week, its getting to the point that i am not even enjoying them anymore, they taste nasty, buti cant help but smoke, and it makes my working out so much harder. i had severe double pnemonia and was told to never ever touch a cigg again, and all i did was go from menthols to lights. not so good, i desperatly need to quit :(

Chasity - you can do it!! If you put your mind to it, you will be able to quit. It might not be easy, but you are a strong woman and with determination you will succeed! :)

Quitting smoking is the HARDEST thing I ever did in my life. I quit by taking Wellbutrin. I am still on Wellbutrin and it is some good stuff. I quit two years ago and I know I could pick it back up full force tomorrow if I let myself but two years is such a long time. I also gained 30 lbs in the first year I quit. I do feel better and my kids are very happy that i quit doing "drugs" as they put it. But it was very hard. Cigarettes are the devil I tell ya.

Not everyone, but many people do. I don't think you should take it with a diet med though so be sure to check with your doctor if you are taking phen/other.
I tried Wellbutrin with my BF when he decided to quit. He quit, I didn't. It had no effect on me except that I had a little more energy and couldn't eat bread for some reason, it just tasted awful.

Wellbutrin worked for me but I know others that it did not work for. When I started taking the Wellbutrin I was not even trying to stop smoking. It was prescribed for depression. After a few weeks I realized I was not waking up and smoking a cig first thing. So I just slowly tapered. Which for me was waaaayyy better than cold turkey. If anything Wellbutrin might help you cut back. Who knows. But I totally gotcha on the not wanting to gain. It ****s.

I smoked for 9 years. I quit using the smoke away system, IT WORKED!!!! I went through a tough time and picked them up again. Finally I got the flu and quit with out meds. COLD TURKEY WAS THE HARDEST THING I EVER DID!!! After going through the night sweats, light headedness, anger, restless nights, and EXTREME hunger, I decided to never smoke again and I haven't. I smelled one of my "smoking coats" and it STUNK!!!!! I didn't know I smelled that bad! I had to throw out the coats, purses, and gloves I used when I was a smoker! The first few months was heard because many of my friends are smokers, but willpower is key.
Fast forward to now, I am 15 pounds heavier and 1000 times happier! My advice is quit when YOUR ready. The first time I quit it was so everyone would stop bugging me. This time I quit for myself and it was successful.
Good Luck to those who want to quit, and for those who don't, take a drag of a Marboro Light for me ;) !

i had been smoking Camel lights for 9 years and quit last October, i didn't know why or how, wasn't even tring, just kinda tapered it off. I was taking Wellbutrin at the time. I did not know that would help you stop. I guess that explains it!
I still smoke sometimes, but only if I drink, and not every time I do that.
