I love to walk, however I live in MN and by the time I get home from work it is already dark and not to mention, the sidewalks are icey. What do you do in the winter to exercise? I have a few DVD's on walking, but it is soooooo boring! I cannot afford a treadmill. Any suggestions, please let me know how you do it, I need the encouragement! I am currently off Phen and want to keep up with the exercise but finding it hard, I would like to ask my doc for another prescription, but she said she only wanted me on it for three mo. I have been off since Oct. I am tempted to buy online but am afraid of getting ripped off. HELP!

Hey Twista, I understand about the walking ot the DVD being boring. To me, any exercise in my house is boring. I don't know why. At work, we have underground tunnels that let us go from building to building without having to go outside. I will walk a mile and half in those tunnels in the afternoon.
After work (every other day) I go to the fitness center and do the following routine:
Iso-Lateral Wide-Chest Machine (3 sets of 15 reps)
Leg Press Machine (3 sets of 15 reps)
Arm Curls with Dumbbells (3 sets of 15 reps)
Seated Leg Curl Machine (3 sets of 15 reps)
Overhead Shoulder Presses with dummbbells (3 sets of 15 reps)
Iso-Lateral Row Machine (3 sets of 15 reps)
Triceps Pulldown (3 sets of 15 reps)
30-40 minutes on Elliptical
This is my workout every other day in that order. You may want to strongly consider joining a fitness center. A YMCA or Community Center are usually less expensive than the big name fitness centers. If ice is a problem, you may also want to go to a mall and just start being a mall walker. You can get a little 4 dollar pedometer that will measure the distance you are walking, although the cheaper ones aren't 100% accurate, it will be fairly close to accurate.
Keep us updated if you get any other ideas or try something new.

I have an exercise bike I'm using for the most part. I grab a good book, or my textbooks, depending on what class I'm in, and go. I'm like you, it's dark when I get home right now.
I have been trying to incorporate 15 min walks in a bldg across the street from where I work that has an inner 'track' of hallways. It's very tough to fit in exercise, though, as you know. Every once in awhile I'll mix it up with a video or weights.
I have yet to join a gym because of the extra time involved in getting there, changing, etc. I already spend 10.5 hrs away from home as it is just in working and commute. I'm curious to see what everyone else does for exercise. Great question.

I have ordered phen from this site and it was a great transaction. I received it promptly. I tried to order from a less expensive site first and ended up with strange charges on my bank card! Ended up canceling my card and being issued a new one.
Check out your local public library. They usually have a variety of exercise videos (although some of them can be pretty dated). Another option would be Netflix. Netflix has a great variety of exercise DVD's. You can get a one DVD plan for not too much money a month. Get your DVD and use it, or send it back if you don't like it and get the next one. A great way to try a variety of workouts.

Stormy, was it expensive to order online? I only paid 27.00 when my doc prescribed.

Well on that aspect yeah. I paid 180.00 for 3 months of 37.5 mg pills. My insurance doesn't pay anything on weight loss aids. Do you have to pay an office visit?

Twista have you tried the WATP's dvd's? A lot of people here on this forum use those tapes and they are not boring. There are several tapes. You can check out all the different types on Leslie Sansomes website. I purchased mine at Walmart. I use the 3 mile super fat burner religiously. They aren't just walking tapes. She incorprates weights in the middle of the video. The 3 mile tape definitely gives me a good workout every single time.

Well, I do have an exercise bike and a treadmill, which I really try to do as often as I can, but if I am somewhere where I don't have access to them, I do jumping jacks. I have been told in the past by a personal trainer that they are GREAT cardio and great for your thighs and they are one of the few exercises you can do that gets your heart rate up the fastest and only have to do for about 5-10 minutes a day.

Walk
Away
The
Pounds.
They're great videos. I have the walk and kick, the walk and jog, and the 1, 2, 3 mile fat burners, and the other 2 and 3 mile one that you use the resistance band with. I love them. :)

I use the Firm. This workout combines step aerobics and weight training. I bought the latest set with the Transfirmer (2 steps) at Target for $60. This includes 3 DVDs,too. I have seen great results and can do this in the privacy of my home.

I JUST started exercising (about a month ago)and am getting he hang of it :)
I tivo Denise Austin's Daily Workout and then find the ones I like (I have one for each area-aerobics, yoga, hip/thighs concentration, etc.) and "protect" them and then I can do whichever one I want whenever I want and don't have to mess around with a DVD, etc.
Just remember to workout through the commercials so you get your full 34 minutes "in." I sometimes will do more sit-ups, etc. after it is done.
Much luck to you :)

I have a gym here in the building where I work and I use the stairmaster 4-5 days a week. If I didn't have that though, I'd try to find a gym nearby my home, or perhaps a community center where I could take fitness classes. Worst case scenario I would buy some WATP tapes and do them at home. Good luck!
