I used an at home coloring kits from Revlon to color my hair last night. The box said you may need two boxes if your hair is long. My hair isn't too terribly long so I didn't think Id need two. Well turns out my hair is just plain thick and I didn't have enough to get a very even look. Its not that bad, but it bothers me. Is there anything I can do now? It was a Level 3 dye, darker than my natural color if that matters.

Every time I try to color at home something always happens so in the last year or two I just stick with my hairdresser even though I hate paying the money. I know there are some experts on here so maybe you will get some good help!! I wish you the best!!

You can do another application on top of what's already done, with some deep, deep conditioning in between. And some deep conditioning afterward, but that's about it. Is it really that noticeable? I used to color my hair all the time before I went to henna and have done this without too much damage, and I have very fine hair. If yours is thick and course, or medium, it could probably stand up to it well. Just be cautious about getting a lot on your scalp.

go get another box and use it like a wash. wet your hair first. apply the color like a shampoo. you may find that some of your hair will be darker then the rest. that is because you have color on it already. there is no way to avoid it. even if you went to see a hair dresser it would have pieces darker then the rest. but if you wash it everyday it even out in a week or so. just make sure next time you do it you buy the two boxes. it will be okay though.

One thing that I do is.. I comb it thru before I wrap it up to sit..so that all the strands are even. I don't feel like they are even unless I do that.

I'm a hairdresser and if you do it again you may end up ever darker than before even if you use the exact same color.

If you REALLY want to start over again, you could use a hair color remover kit. It takes ALL of the color out of your hair. So you end up with like orangey/white hair. Then you would color your hair again, using two boxes this time. It is also VERY HARD on the hair, so after you color it again to get the color you want, you'll have to leave it alone for awhile.
Can you live with it the way it is for a few days? Even with permanent dye the color usually settles down after a week or so. That might give you a more accurate look at what you're hair is doing.
If you can live with it, I say wash it every night for a week. Make sure you use a good conditioner every time. After a week, take a look and see what you have. If you can live with that, wait six weeks and just do it again using two boxes of color this time.
If you can't live with it, it might be best to consult a professional.
Good luck :)

Thanks ladies :)
I like the color alot. I would really like it if it were a bit darker. I thought about trying again with 2 boxes this time but Im afraid it will still be pretty uneven color wise. Wont the dark parts just get darker and the light parts just com up to the color of the dark parts now? I dont have any of my natural color right now. Its just diffrent shades of the dyed color. The middle layers are pretty light and there are some spots at the roots that are to light. I guess my best bet is to wash and condition it everyday for a week and then try again with enough dye this time. I dont think it looks that bad now, but its just not right you know. Coloring it again so quickly wont do any major damage will it?
I'll try and post some pictures if I get a chance.

I was hoping a hair dresser would respond! Thanks for the advice. Im also looking for a new cut. Do you happen to know any good website for pictures of diffrent hair cuts?

hey there. I'm a colorist so i thought id hop in. my first suggestion would be to go to a GOOD salon to get it fixed, because it can be fixed. If you came to me, id be able to get your hair all one color. I dont want you to think youre stuck with the uneven tones.
If youre going to attempt to do it at home, I would go to a beauty supply shop and get a color stripper. It will take that color out, gently. just follow the directions to a T. I would also get some good deep conditioner. smother it on your hair and put a plastic bag over it for about an hour. So in a few days, you will be able to start fresh with 2 boxes of color.
hope i could help. :)
