Hello everyone. I posted yesterday but I think I have gotten lost in the crowd! "Tachyphylaxis"...has anyone experienced this? Apparently it is when a person has been on a drug before and when they go back to using the same drug again it doesn't work like it should (due to the body building up an immunity to it). This happens in a lot of different medications and I am thinking that I am experiencing this with Phen. I was on it seven years ago and had great results but this time around I felt as if I had not taken anything after about three days of using it. Anybody else on phen again and dealing with the same thing? Someone had mentioned that maybe switching to a different med like Didrex might help. Can anybody advise...?
Thanks a bunch!

I'm your girl! This descibes me to a T.
I was on phen years ago and lost 40 pounds in no time. Stopped phen - gained it all back plus some. I've taken it off and on for the last few years only to lose a few pounds here and there. It only lasts for a few days and i was back to normal. I always gained when i quit though.
Now when i take phen it's like popping an asprin.
Nothing happens!
I've also tried Bontril this past year and it does the same thing for me. Nothing!

I'm having the issue of Phentermine not working for me this time. I was on it a while ago and lost quit a bit of weight. However, recently I gained 30 lbs., almost over night. My doctor put me back on it. I have been on it for 3 months and only lost 6 lbs. :( . I think I'm doing everything right (watching what I eat, exercising, drinking water, etc), but after the initial 6 lbs. I lost the first week I was on it again, I haven't lost anything. I'm also noticing that I don't have the negative side effects as I did before....it almost seems like I'm not taking it at all. I really hope that I at least shed the 30 lbs. I gained recently.

I'm hoping I figure this out, whatever the reason may be that I'm not loosing. I hate being this big.

Same here PPP1973!
I feel like i'm doing everything right too and NOTHING. It gets really depressing! I've lost and gained so much in the past 15 years that nothing helps me anymore.
and the negative side effects -- I don't get them either. No dry mouth..nothing.
Maybe i should just eat healthy and get moderate exercise and be happy with what i have. It's like fighting a never ending battle.

Hey ppp1973 and heartland! Thanks for replying you guys. I was starting to think this tolerance thing was all in my head so it's good to know I'm not alone. I am sorry you are experiencing this as I know how frustrating it is, ecspecially since we were all able to lose so much the first time we were on phen. I have heard that 5-htp may help, have either of you tried this?
Thanks again

No, i don't think i've tried it. It's terrible- i've taken so many things i can't even remember!!!
I think i looked a loooong time ago for it and couldn't find it so i bought the oneaday weightsmart. THAT pill made me sooo nausious (I KNOW i didn't spell that right!!)

I'm really getting interested in smoothies. I haven't started anything yet but i think it sounds like a healthy idea. Have one for breakfast-snack-one for lunch-snack- and a healthy supper. I LOVE fruit so i think i might try it.

I loooooooove smoothies! Sounds like you have a good back-up plan. Sometimes I think I should just give up the whole "medicated weightloss" idea and give it a good try on my own. I just seem to have such low willpower when it comes to being dicsaplined (spelled wrong...I haven't won any spelling bee's either! ;) ). I'm not sure what the answer is but i'm pretty sure there is something out there that will work for each individual, it's just a matter of finding it. My problem is I get so desperate to lose weight that I will put all my hopes and dreams into a particular plan then feel so let down that it didn't work and wind up depressed and depleted of any self esteem whatsoever. It's such a cruel cycle I put myself through. I like your idea though...Maybe I ought to give it a whirl!

I mentioned the smoothie idea to my husband and all he could think about was how expensive fruit is! LOL
Next payday i think i'll stock up anyway. I've realized pills don't work for me anymore. If i want to loose weight i'll have to work my butt off and be happy loosing 2 pounds a month!!!!

It's berry season for the next few weeks, and freezing fruit in or for nutritional shakes is good stuff!

I noticed after 8 weeks of using phen that it no longer had the same effect. 12 weeks (16 or 17 with continual stop and start useage) it was having almost no effect other than the "side effects" lol. I took the full 37.5 the last 5 weeks, and by the last 2, I was not affected at all.

Now I can call it something! Thanks. My doc said this is common, and that ALL of her patients experienced it "not" working. She thinks it's the reason they only prescribe it for 12 weeks in my state. After the 12 weeks, patients have to wait a full year to take it again.

That's fine with me. The side effects made me depressed, irritable, groggy, foggy brained and very tired. It's really exhausted my body. The
diet regime and exericise habits I achieved, however, have been superior with excellent results. I've lost 8 lbs. since stopping the phen.

You can do it! I keep telling this to myself, too.
lol.

I have never tried 5-htp. Where do I get it, do I need a prescription? At this point, I'm willing to try just about anything.

Also, has anyone ever gotten Phentermine off the internet? Is it the fake stuff?

i got it off the internet, i believe it was sisters pharmacy .com and it works great, am taking the 37.5 but onky half around 11 or 12 to carry me through the day. first two weeks are great 12 lbs gone but i worry like you about when i go off of it if I will balloon back up again. I have lost enough inches that new clothes have been the order of the day and they are looking good but I dont want to go back to my"big " clothes again. as much as I hate it I have to say that the only thing that will continue to work is a good healthy diet and exercise. We all know it and hate to do it but if the drugs stop working and we want to continue looking good do we really have a choice?? I am reluctantly heading back to the gym next week when I get back from vacation because I am really liking the thin me and do not want to lose it!!! I am sorry to hear that it will stop working as it has really been a wonderful addition to my life!!

So let this be a warning to all those out there on phen for the first time!!!! Work your a@@ off to keep this weight off because I think it is a "one time chance" with phen. I don't want to discourage anyone from trying it again but from personal experience (and from others) it will not work like it did the first time. Also, I believe it has screwed my metabolism up as well. I can go on a low cal diet and not lose a pound, even with exercise! DARN IT!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with Malynda...this is my 2nd time on it and it DOESN'T work at all for me. I do exercise and diet, I just must be doing something really wrong for me to have gained 30 lbs back (Plus, I still need to loose more to meet my goal). Maybe it has to do w/ my metabolisim being screwed up too.

Poetess thanks for the suggestion about xenecal. I will have to try that. It seems to really be working for you while on the Phen.

I was just wondering, did any of you that have gained the weight back incorporate weight training into your plan. I know that when you diet and cut too many calories you also lose muscle and then it is easier to gain weight because having muscle burns more calories than fat does. I haven't ever lost much weight before so I don't know this from personal experience, but I have just read alot about it. Just a thought. Also my brother in law who owns a gym and has a degree in excercise or something like that says you need to eat five small meals a day to keep your metabolism going, I know I have a hard time doing this when I am not using the phentermine because I have a hard time not eating until I am really full. Anyway I know I am scared about gaining any weight I lose back after stopping with the phentermine, but I hope I will be able to keep up the good eating and excercising.

Hi wyomingmom. To answer your question... Yes. The first time I was on phen I did the same exact things I am doing now. Lots of weight training and resistance training along with cardio exercises and 6 small meals a day. I lost 5o+ pounds in three months and kept it off for almost three years. I was blessed with another child though and some (not all) of the weight came back with pregnancy. Since then however, I have managed to work my way back up to almost where I was before the first time I was on phen. And unfortunately the phen isn't helping this time around. But it's my fault for letting myself gain so much after I had my daughter. You can keep the weight off though! Once you see yourself in a pair of "skinny jeans" that will be all the motivation you need! Like I said, I kept my weight off for almost three years untill I got pregnant again, but I know I would have kept it off longer had I not gotten pregnant. All you mom's probably know what I mean. Taking care of babies doesn't leave much time (or energy!) for exercise so I just sort of let myself go.
Good luck on your weight loss wyomingmom! The suggestions you gave me are good ones and also something to remember when you get to your goal and want to maintain your new found curves! Thanks! :)

Malynda, that ****s that the phen isn't working the second time, I will really have to be carefull whenever I stop taking it, I also plan to have one more child and who knows what will happen then, oh well I can just do my best. Anyway good luck and I bet if you keep doing what you are doing you will start seeing results.
