Just noticed yourscreen name. I have often thought about naming my daughter Charlie (when and if I have one). Does this sound cruel or unusual to anyone? Just wondering. My name is Charles (go by chuck), My dad's name was Charlie, my dad's name was charles, and on and on, all named either charles, charlie, or chuck. Would it be strange to name a daughter charlie as well? Or would you save the namesake for a boy? What if I didn't have a boy, only girls? Would my daughter hate me if I named her this? I think it's cool for a girl? What do you think?

I MYSELF LIKE DIFFERENT NAMES! I NAMED MY LITTLE GIRL AFTER MY STEP DAD(KENNETH). WE CAME UP WITH MCKENNA. ALSO AFTER MY HUBBY(LEN) LENZI. I LOVE NAMES THAT PEOPLE DONT EXPECT.

Just my opinion, but your daughter may not love the name when she is a kid, but once she is old enough to understand the heritage of it she may come to appreciate it. My middle name is Robbie and I always HATED it as a kid and would beg my teachers not to call out my full name ~ they always did and the other kids would make fun of my having a "boy's middle name".
Now, I wouldn't trade my middle name for anything. You see, my grandmother's name was Robbie. :heartpump:

i also know a girl named Charlie - I think its Charlie Jane & they planned to call her CJ but it never stuck so its still Charlie. She is very young (4) so as of yet it is not an issue but who knows when she gets older. I personally like it. I thinks its easier for a girl to have a boy name than vice versa (boy with a girl name) for what ever steriotypical reasons! My husband has a femine name - Cary - and HATED it growing up but likes it now that he's an adult. well there's my .02¢ :)

I like it. Very different. I have a niece named Destiny. When they named her some 18 years ago, I thought , don't know about that, but it's a great name and is really popular now. So, yeah, Charlie is a good name for a girl.

My oldest is Darsche. French.

Another name I like for a girl is Chyna (China spelled different).

while i was growing up i remember a commercial for a perfume named charlie

'and her name was....charlie'

there are many names that are unisex now, i don't think it's a big deal, as mentioned in a previous post, when she grows up to understand the heritage and how it came from your heart, she'll wear the name prouder than ever.

I think Charlie would be fine for a girl. I would, however, recommend a more feminine name, and have Charlie be for short, like Charlize or Charlette (sp?) or something... But I LOVE 'boy' names for girls..lol
I myself have a Jessie (no, not Jessica, just Jessie) and an Al (Alyssa). We also have an Eli(Elijah), but he's actually a boy..lol.

Kellie...I love your idea of Charlize. It's very classy! Then, she'll have a choice when she gets older whether to go w/ the full name or stick w/ "Charlie" (which I like too).

I think the name Charlie is adorable for a girl. When I worked at the daycare, there was a little girl named Charlie and I always thought how cute that name was and how cute she was. ;)

I love it.

I hate trendy, meaningless names for children. When one of my friends declares that she is having a baby and going to name it "_______" I often just groan on the inside. I would never name my child something that would hold him/her back in life. I think people live up to their names, and I want to give my children names that will look good on bronze plaques in front of law offices, or in hospitals... lol

I don't think naming a little girl Charlie would be in any way holding her back. Give her a more feminine middle name, and if she decides she doesn't like going by Charlie she can go by her middle name. :) Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for all the input. I have always wanted to name my daughter Charlie. I overheard someone bashing that name for a girl a few weeks back and have been thinking about it since. I have the other feminine names picked out already.

Nicole - sister's middle name
Kathryn - mom's middle name
Tamara - I like it
Grace - great g-ma's last name
Ella - other great g-ma's first name

Now I just have to find that someone to have my beautiful daughter!

So funny that you love my name. Actually I love it too and have never had a problem with it. My real name however is Charlene but it's been Charlie since I was a baby.

Charlie?? hmmm well it's pretty but you know, you want your daughter to stand out and be UNIQUE, so you should name her a more feminine name.

Good luck..

I like the other feminine names you picked out, too. I LOVE the name Kathryn, thats what I have always planned on naming my daughter, assuming I ever have one.
I obviously love the name Grace, because that's what I named my fur-baby... lol... but I call her Gracie for some reason... :)

Lumberjacks,

I think Tamara is a beautiful name. In my language it means "Palm tree". More specifically, it means "what the eyes see". Because a palm tree simply doesn't grow anywhere... I think it's very UNIQUE!!

I think you're on the right track if you pick this name! :)

Lumberjacks...

Actually to correct the above-mentioned and to be more precise it means "the seed of the Palm tree"... WOW even better!!

Wow, I think I have jumped way ahead of myself here! I honestly believed out of high school that I would be 'married with children' by 23-25 ish. There are now 2 of the old 'group of friends' that have not married or had kids yet. Everyone is passing us by! By the time I was 25 though, I felt like I would rather be financially stable and atleast begin a career before starting a family or getting married. Plus, I have too many selfish issues I need to fix before I even start dating again! Weight issue being #1, half way there though.

Charlie Kat (for kathryn)
Charlie Grace
Not sure if Tamara sounds right with it, but I do love the name!

I hope my wife is so open to this name as all of you are!

So, CHARLIE...er, lumberjack. What about those mudslides in Laguna Beach!

I never knew a charlie, male or female. Had a Charlie Horse once.

Doesn't matter what you name your kid, as long as you love the kid...Charlie's perty dang darlin'!

OK, but I'm confused!
LumberJack is in Texas? Right? Laguna beach is right here in Southern California!
Awww Schucks! I feel like I missed the punchline or something!
Darn!
