well this is why i am not taking it anymore, but i plan to go and sit and talk to my doc about it, my trainer said that it does cause heart problems and the fact that i am working out ALOT 5-6 days a week could cause problems because i am getting my heart rate up so high, and now becuase of this my bf does not want me taking it at all. buti really loved the choices i made with food and the motivation i had while taking it, so i plan to discuss it with my doc and see if she feels that it is safe and if i am taking it should i be getting a check up every month or something along those lines.

Sadly, I worry about this too! I "feel" things from time to time and its with my heart and I wonder if Im hurting myself, even if its in the long run. It also bothers me to hear how common heart disease is these days and I get a little concerned...

Then I get mad and say if I wanted this bad enough, I wouldnt need no stinking pill, but that's about the time I down 4 KK donuts!!

Its such a battle and it can be frustrating sometimes when I think about it long enough...

I've stopped taking my phen so we'll see how far I get with my anger :) LOL!!

I just read the book "Switching off the Hunger Switch Naturally" as recommended by Fireplacenut. In there, it says none of the heart valve problems were ever linked to Phentermine, just Pondimin (or Fenfleuramine) which was taken off the market. This book was written in 2003.

I heard the same thing beckyinvb. It was the Pondimin that caused the heart issues. My mother in law was affected by the Phen fen.

The way I look at it is this, the Phen is helping most of us to achieve a healthier lifestyle, without it, the foods that we were indulging in, affect us far more than the Phen.

Ebony,

I feel the same way TOO! Sometimes I have no problems, other times I wonder if that was a pain in my arm, or was that my heart. I think we would get the same pains if we keep the weight on - at least that is how I'm looking at it. If you are worried - see your doctor, I'm waiting for mine to get back from vacation and I'm going to schedule an EEG anyway since I get one, once a year and I'm overdo. Keep the faith sweetie.

As long as you "use as directed", it's probably very safe. I don't trust any drugs, especially if it's too good to be true.

After 8 weeks, the phen stopped working for me. It's possible that damage could be done if phen is taken at higher doses for too long a time. If you read the side effects and the warnings, and check your blood pressure often, the phen program works.

As long as you don't drink alcohol or caffeine, use nicotine, or other stimulating drugs while using this medication, studies show it's safe to use phen. The healthy diet and exercise is meant to bring about the ultimate result; a new and healthy lifestyle plan.

I worry too, however. It's hard to get past that feeling of bewilderment.

Trying to think positive, but I'm done with phen, and good ridance side effects!

 :)

What they said. I took the pondimon too, and that and redux were the culprits that cause heart valve probs. The phen, is safe, if you don't have high bp or other significant healthy problems. HOw is your weight coming?

i agree with my 3 sons. i told my regular dr that i had more chance of bad health issues, like heart problems, from being overweight than i would taking the phen. he said just keep a check on blood pressure and heart rate. i work for the school system so i had a nurse on hand any time i wanted it checked. we checked it at different times over a 2 month time. i am doing fine, but i still keep it checked.
