I am in the process of trying to figure out what gym I want to join and would love to hear your comments if you have gone to Curves.
I hear you only go 3 times a week and its a 30 minutes workout. I dont like the idea of only going 3 times a week. I want to go has often as I want, is this possible?
Thanks in advance.

I was a member at Curves and it was great. I would go during my lunches at work. They suggest 3x a week, but you could go every day if you want. That's what I did.
Around September I was getting married and life got so busy so I stopped going. I would love to get a membership again. It really helped my weight loss. It's great!

Hi Sabrinna,
Thanks for the info.... it's a routine of exercises everyone does right? I just want to know what to expect if I decide to go there.
Thanks again.
By the way, pretty picture :)

Hi Melmin- I tried Curves with a free one-week coupon that I had. I didn't like it at all. It wasn't enough of a workout, I didn't even break a sweat. They had the newer hydraulic machines that are supposed to increase resistance the faster you go, but it still wasn't doing it for me. BUT I have been a good exerciser all my life and used to play sports in HS/college. My sister- who is very sedentary and hates working out- LOVED going to Curves and lost weight going just 3x a week.
So I don't think Curves is for people who are looking for more of a hard-core workout, but it's great for people who either hate to exercise or who haven't ever really exercised much in the past.

Hi,
Yes I also went to Curves. It is a great program, especially for those who are just beggining to work out. it gives you both strength training and cardio all in one. the machines form a circle, and you spend about a minute or two on each one then go to the next... alternating between a hydralic weight machine( light weights with adjustable self paced resistance, depending on your level) and jog platform (where you can walk or jog in place). The great thing about this program is that you and the other women are all doing this at the same time as you go around the circuit..... it makes it fun and gives you great moral support. The curves I went to also would keep you distracted with games , etc. It is great fun!!!And the workout is over beofer you know it.
You can also go as often as you like, some people even go twice a day I believe. Give it a shot, I am sure you will like it, and the price is so resonable too....

Yes, I have to agree with the Lola, Curves is not for everyone. If you are at a high level of fitness Curves may not be challenging enough for you. That is what I found for myself after time. However, the average person can get a decent workout at curves.....you just have to step up the intensity... The curves I went to I saw everyone from elderly ladies to college soccer girls. It is very self paced and great for someone who hates the gym and doesn't have a ton of time. Another great thing I have found with Curves, maybe the most important, is that it is something that is realistic, something that you can probably see yourself doing from now on....

I think a Curves workout is what you make of it. You alternate between a hydralic machine, and then a square pad for aerobic activity (30 seconds on each then everyone switches). I see ladies in there that just sway a little when they are on the pad - nothing intensive. When I'm on the pad, I alternate between running, simulate jump roping, ski move side to side, knees up, or jumping jacks. I get an excellent workout by doing that. The big difference for me is wearing my MP3 player and listening to my own music. I go 3 x a week on average. I also have been running on my treadmill 5 x a week for 4 miles. I recently switched to an elliptical trainer and am doing that for 45 minutes so far. Good luck!

Hey Melmin! Welcome! I have done it all. Ladies Health Choice, GOLD'S, Curves, and Jazzercise. Jazzercise is EXCELLENT and i highly recommend it. There are no contracts with Jazzerice...its dance aerobics and weights to todays top 40 music. Ppl of all ages, large and small do it. If you want something full of energy, thhen do Jazzericse. To me, Curves was boring...plus a year long contact..so if u decide u dont llike it...ur stuck...music was turned down too low, not enough equiptment...not enough.....support...to me anyway! I recommend JAZZERCISE!!!! Jazzercise.com
CHECk it out!!! **Felicia Jarvis** Greenville,SC

Well, you all know I have to put my 2 cents in here. Curves is a definite great place to start your workout regimine. It helped me to like working out. I go 3-4 times a week for 45-60 mins. I really agree with Becky up there, but any workout for that matter is only going to give you what you put in it. If you in there and do a half **** job then your going to get half **** results. I have busted my booty working out in there everytime I go and I know I can really tell a difference. But, if you are looking for the more advanced workout then i would try somewhere else.
Matter of fact went to a new gym today (got a certificate for 3 months for Christmas), just to change things up for me, and woooo-weeee did I work my tail OFF! I did 1 mile jogging on the treadmill 11.5 miles on the bike and some leg exercises and upper arm exercises. The difference I see is the support from other people, I pretty much went in there and gave them my card and they said ok your ready to go. No help with any of the equipment or anything. As with curves they show you exactly how to do everything to make sure your doing it right. I pretty much knew the routine at the gym, but it would have been nice for someone to actually take the time to show me a few things. But, the workout was a step up from curves. A nice change. I have been doing curves religously for six months now. I am minus 57 inches. I will probably alternate gyms now. Nice to have options. Anyway, thats my opinion. Good luck on finding one that works for you!! :)

Is it still 29.00 a month to go?
Why is that so hard for me to come up with???
7.25 a week---that's pretty cheap really.
I went a long time ago and i loved it. I quit going because it was 15 miles from my house. I wish it was closer cause i'd like to start again!!!

I wish I could join my local Curves......but the woman who owns the franchise is only open from 7 to 4 on weekdays. :(
No after 4:00 pm and no weekends. :(
I wish they would sell the frachise for someone who wants to deal with working women.

Mel, that is no excuse and you know it girl!! ;)
Thats how far it is for me too!! :) And, yes I think it is still 29 a month. I will ask tomorrow just to be sure. By the way how are ya feeling Mel?
Olley, that stinks! They are open here from 8 until 1 and then 3 until 7. I never go on Saturdays so I don't know what they're hours are then. I usually go about 5:45 after work. Works well with my schedule. But, I know for alot of people it does not suit them. You just have to shop around and see what fits you best!! :)

I'm gonna run the idea by hubby and see what he says. I'm not sure if we want another bill each month. The way i feel now i really want to get with the program. I hate being fat. 7.25 a week -i think i could gather that much pocket change. I'll let ya know what i decide--- :spider_red:

Hey Ladies.....
I absolutely LOVE Curves!! I went again last night and worked up a sweat doing my running on the squares in between the machines. They allow a person to come in 5-6 days a week, if this is what they want to do. I actually know some women personally who do this and they are "mere shadows of their former selves". I go on average 3 times a week on alternating days & I figure I can do anything for 30 minutes, being the type of person with no patience whatsoever, if 'ya know what I mean?
It is still $29.00/month plus tax and to me it is $$ well spent. I do highly recommend it for anyone. No, I do not own stock nor do I work for the company, I simply enjoy it so much. It's fun too.
Have a Blessed day everyone. Hope to hear from more folks out there :)

Hey all,
Thanks for your replies.
Do you absolutely have to sign a contract? That is something I do not want to do. Basically its between Curves & Lady of America. Those 2 places are close to my house and convenient but I know for sure Lady of America makes you sign a year or 2 contract.
I have to also find out the hours at Curves because I would like to go during my lunch hour and possibly after work also. I will call today to find out.
Fi, I am going to check out that website to see if there is a place in my area for jazzercise. Back when I was "in shape" I used to dance and the company I danced with had their own jazzercise class and I was addicted to it. Thanks for the info.
