Hi everybody, I will copy here a posting I left in another thead. I am working as an advocate at Lowry and I am giving immediate things to the people who needs them, mostly children and baby items, clothing and some toys from my own children at this point. If you want to help me in the cause please email me at Danico2003@msn.com.
Gosh, I am angered to think how misinformed most of the USA is. I am working in Lowry where we have about 400 evacuees and we have 500 more coming on Wednesday. There is a misconception that people who are in shelters are getting all the help, WROONGGG, SO WRONGGGGG. Women didn't get a bra until 5 days being in the shelter, kids don't have a second pair of shorts, they didn't get sandals, for the last 4 days they had to wear the same shoes they came with from Louisianna and they still carry their things in garbage bags. I had a couple who are 9 months pregnant with 2 small girls, they left the shelter on Sunday morning and drove the 19 hours all the way back to La. The Red Cross and other charities warehouse are so overflown with donations and as they don't have enough people to sort the things out, the things are piling up to the roofs, but there you have the people at the shelters with just one or two change of clothing. I have taken this as a personal moto and I am putting together baby clothing and items for the 5 pregnant women at Lowry, one of them a 16 year old girl who is due two weeks from today. God knows how many more Moms will arrive on Wednesday when we get the other group. Please don't think that people on shelters have the upper hand, they are in isolated conditions in small rooms with 2 military beds, with strangers everywhere, people who are living out of the shelters, with friends and families are much better. Tell your friends that if they are in a city where there is a shelter they will get items as they keep coming to the shelter and going to the places where they are provisions for them. They should receive also some tickets for ARC and Goodwill. I am angered that the Red Cross has over 504 millions of dollars in donations and still some people don't have even $20 in their pockets here. Right now I am watching Nightline and Gosh they are on the money with that the RC is not giving the help that everybody is needing.
