I just wanted to post a website that allows you to offer housing help to those affected by Katrina. The websie is hurricainehousing.org I am a single mother with not enough money to give and have been feeling helpless in the last week. I heard about this site and signed up. I am offering a bedroom in my home to any other single mom affected by this tragidy. I would encourage anyone that has the space to help to go to this website and check it out. Even if you do not have the space please look at this site and you will be amazed at your fellow americans and how much they are giving, it really makes you feel good. You can specify certain things like how many you can house, smokers vs non-smokers, pets etc... but there is not specifications on race, sexually orintation etc... which is wonderful. I have posted my offer and if god sees it fit for me to help in this way then the right family will contact me. I do not know anyone personally affected by this event, but I cry everyday when I see or hear about the people affected by this.

Just a side note, please be aware when you are giving, there are alot of scams out there. One rule of thumb is please really research any .com sites that are asking for money. Most reputable sites are .org. There is a site right now that is "the national red cross.com" this is NOT the red cross! Please just be aware that there are always people that come out during tragidys and try to cause trouble. But still have faith in your fellow americans and do what you can to help.

Thank you
Christine

Thank you Christine. That's so kind of you. And you have a beautiful child.

I will definitely check out the website.

Great idea posting the site's address here. :heartpump: I offered a bedroom up on there a few days ago myself. If someone were willing to relocate here I posted in my thread that I would help them thoughout any process that may arise - such as enrolling children in school, finding work, housing, transpotration, aid, etc. These people need help NOW but they also need help getting back on their feet. I couldn't imagine having to start over from scratch. Anything that we are able to do - we should do.
