We belong to a police families organiztion and I just heard about this. The sad thing is this is one of many many families that are in need right now.

My friend Jenn who is in Georgia has 14 family members staying with her right now. 3 of their homes were completely destroyed in New Orleans.

They pretty much have the clothes on their back and are in need of ANYTHING you can donate to them. They left with 2-3 days worth of clothes/personal items.

I am putting together a box of clothes/household items to give to them...(good thing I lost weight, I have a ton of different size ranges right now) but here are the sizes they need.Anything from a little girl's size 6 and a junior's 1/2 to a 5/6 or 7/8 in junior's or misses and a 14 in Women's.

For the guys, they wear anything from a 34 pants up to a 38 pants and a Large up to an XXLarge shirt. There is also a little boy size 2T-3T....as I have told most of you- I have a 4 year old daughter so I don't have anything for him....

I emailed her this morning and she said they need absolutley anything you can think of. So, if you have anything, your donation would be greatly appreciated.
If you don't have anything physical to donate please send your thoughts and prayers to this family and everyone else going through this right now.

If you would like to send any donations to this family please PM me.
Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this...

Kittie- thanks for the kind words...we live in the richest country in the world...and I am watching CNN and hearing stories and when you see the pictures it looks like a 3rd world country.

I think its our obligation to help these poor people out.

Isn't it sweet to watch your kids give like that? My four year old and I went through her room this morning just looking for books, maybe some games...things like that..she is an only child, only grandchild, so sharing is kind of tough for her. She put so many things into the box after I explained what had happen to this little boy ....she really wanted to help.

V~ God Bless you hun for spreading the word. I pray someone near-by can indeed help them.

I just loaded the back of my mini van this afternoon with bags and bags of clothes and shoes..from all four of our closets, some which still had tags on them...how can I walk into my closet and see those new clothes while they have none? I'm still crying over all the saddness.

I've already donated to help the refugees who are coming into town tomorrow. My town has prepared for many hundreds...God, it's so sad.

We're already out of gas at many pumps today and whats left is $3.19...getting scary forsure!

Tonight as I was driving through town sweating with the windows down~ trying to preserve some gas I almost got irritated, then I thought of all those stranded in the heat and water, dying. I'm so blessed. This has really changed my life , selfish thinking. I pray that after this event I will keep this compassion for others and not forget just how blessed I am.

My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected and those who are going to help.

First I want to say Thank You to whomever it was that put an exclamation point on this thread so it stays at the top....John? Jipi? Thanks! That was really nice of you to do! :heartpump: :heartpump:

Dawn- For some reason I am unable to PM you with that info...will you please PM me so I can give you the address of my Friend? Anything you can donate would be so appreciated. It was so kind of you to offer.

I have learned so much about people the last few days...strangers in particular...people have gone out of their way to help them just from hearing about the devestation they have experienced through a friend of a friend,my neighbors,teachers...complete strangers have left boxes and bags of things on my doorstep with cards, letters and money for this family.
and...all of you that took the time to box things up, lug it to the post office...and send items for them.... just saying thank you to all of you just isn't good enough to me, I am speechless at the outpouring of kindness. It is really amazing to me how so many of you did this. I don't want to get emotional but you truly are amazing people to do that. Such good hearts. I feel so lucky that our paths have crossed.

I appreciate all of you so much.. I cannot thank you enough. It is so appreciated by me and by my friend Jenn's family.

You're welcome V. I sent my package off Tesday. After much wrangling with the Post Office, I only had to pay half price.

I just guessed on the shoe sizes.

Keep up the good job.

Thanks Missus :heartpump: you know that day we were PM'ing each other back and forth? Well after I got the email about the shoe sizes I tried to PM you again and you were all filled up MS POPULAR :)
No big deal...all I was going to tell you is that she was unsure of the shoe sizes so your best guess was good!

Thanks again...I truly appreciate it.

I'm having a Hurrican Katrina Releif BBQ at the cottage this Sunday I'm gonna have a pale (in liu of the water damage from it) and have friends and family donate money to the Canadain Red Cross to send over there... I have about 50 people coming up and plus the cottagers near us.
I also dropped off 2 bags of baby clothes to the Red Cross to send down there too...

Canada tops the list for thank-yous from the United States for its response to the Hurricane Katrina tragedy.

President George Bush Friday offered thanks to Canada and other countries for their "outpouring of compassion" and substantial relief for the countless U.S. victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Earlier this week, U.S. Ambassador David Wilkins effusively thanked Canada as well. "The aid pouring from all across Canada has been truly overwhelming," Wilkins said in Vancouver. "Many countries are offering help, nobody more so than Canada...You're at the top of the list and for that we will always be grateful."

President Bush said "I want to thank the world community for its prayers and for the offers of assistance that have come from all around the world." The president listed the aid offered by a host of countries, rich and poor alike. He said even war-torn Afghanistan has pledged $100,000 in aid.

"Canada has sent ships with disaster supplies," Bush said. "Air Canada's planes assisted in the evacuation."

Three Canadian warships - the destroyer HMCS Athabaskan, frigates HMCS Ville de Quebec and HMCS Toronto - and the Coast Guard ship Sir William Alexander left Halifax on Tuesday packed with relief supplies, helicopters to deliver them and about 1,000 Canadian Forces personnel ready for a variety of chores. They are expected to arrive off the U.S. Gulf Coast early next week.

Air Canada provided shuttle flights to help in the evacuation of about 25,000 people from New Orleans to San Antonio, Texas. Air Canada also flew a cargo of bottled water and relief supplies to New Orleans.

Canadian military planes took Canadian Red Cross and government officials to work in the disaster areas. About 35 Canadian military divers are helping with inspecting ***es and clearing waterways. A shipment of supplies requested by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has arrived in Atlanta from Canada. Donations are pouring in from the provinces.

The Vancouver Urban Search and Rescue Team worked in St. Bernard Parish, about 30 km east of New Orleans, rescuing 119 stranded people before the U.S. military took over this week. The team's leader Tim Armstrong said, ~~"We were the first relief effort that made their way there."~~

In Los Angeles, TV news anchor Hal Fishman of KTLA Channel 5 praised Canada's assistance saying "The country has embraced us and offered support on myriad levels." He said other countries have extended aid, but ~~Canada stands above the rest in terms of types of support and the different sectors which have offered help.~~

Gov. Haley Barbour of Mississippi said, "We actually got utility crews in from Canada."
