Does anyone crave huge amounts of caffiene and nicotine when using Phentermine?

Hi Ilena, I have been on Phentermine for 4 days now, and have had a nicotine craving that should cause me to turn into a cig.LOL. I was smoking maybe a pack a day and am now up to a pack and 1/2. I hope this will eventually pass but if not I am going to mention it to my Dr. when I go back in June.

I used phentermine after having my first child and lost the extra weight in 8 months...unfortunately, I smoked quite a bit and drank tons of diet coke. After I stopped the medication, the cravings went away. Now my second child is almost two and here we go again...gotta smoke (outside of course) and buy stock in the coca-cola company. I have to quit smoking...can't until I lose the weight then go on the patch....

Is that why I've been smoking so much??? I could NOT figure it out...I always want to smoke. Granted, I've had my ups and downs thru the years, but I was spreading a pack over a week and now I'm almost at a pack a day!!!

Caffeine I steer clear of; it causes headaches with the phentermine and it just wasn't worth it to me.

Can someone give me a really, really good reason to quit the Diet Coke? Cause I mean.... geeeezzz.. it seems so innocent of an addiction. Luckily I don't get the headaches - I think I might get them without the caffeine though. I hate water!! I love Diet Coke!!

Is caffeine so bad? Ugh. Anybody know where there is reliable info on Diet Coke/weight loss?

Thanks for the read. Just thought I'd join in....

Okay ShiningStar, here is some input from a reformed seriously addicted Diet Coke drinker...I use to drink a 12 pack or more a day. I have nurses where I work and one of them said I should try to cut back. I thought she was going to give me some facts about caffeine. She said "Caffiene isn't the problem, it is all that nutrasweet you are drinking". I got to thinking about it and I probably got as much nutrasweets as those lab rats that got cancer. I decide to kick the habit. I started out cutting back then stopped all together. I had tried this before and got horrible headaches...this time, I drank margaritas all afternoon so if I got the headaches I didn't know about (ha ha).

The bad news...Diet Coke made me lose weight faster, it is a stimulant AND a diuretic(sp?) so I had more trouble losing weight when I quit (until I discovered phen that is).

I still have a Caffeine free Diet Coke on occasion but really try to drink water instead. Okay that's enough.

I quite smoking when I found out I was pregnant with my daugther in Oct of 2000. I haven't had a problem wanting a cig or anything until I started phen on 4/23. I have since went a bought a pack of cigs and hide them and sneak around taking puffs everyday or so. When the phen wears off I don't crave it at all. The only thing is tonight I worked out and my lungs are burning. I could kick myself for even buying them. I didn't think 1 or 2 a day would bother me. Guess so! As for the caffeine I drank quite a bit everyday. The first couple of days I got caffine withdrawals and now I don't. I just treat myself to a coke here and there.

I don't smoke, but my ice-tea intake went up incredibly when I was on phen-fen, and now, I've noticed, it's done the same thing on Phen. i've been on Phen for 3 days. I was on Phen-fen for four 1/2 months 7 years ago. Not only iced tea, but, man, I don't drink pop, but I suddenly wnat Diet Coke, so I bought a twelve pack of it...
Oh well, betteer than a twelve pack of beer, atleast Diet Coke will keep me from sleeping!

Thanks for the read. Just thought I'd join in....Hi, I used phentermine last year for 6 months and lost 60 pounds, before i went on it I drank a ton on diet coke, when I started using phentermine, I quit drinking it and went to water. I noticed a huge differance in how my skin felt. It also helped me lose weight. Even though it is a diet drink, it still helps you retain water. I asked my doc about it and he said it is the worst thing that you can drink when you are trying to lose weight. I am now back on phen after 1 year, of course after I lost the 60 pounds I started drinking it again and gained 40 back. Ive been off of diet coke for 1 week and can tell a HUGE differance, Just try it see how you feel. its amazing, Hope my info helped you just a little

Ditto what Plumeria said. I used to drink pretty much nothing but Diet Coke (though I don't dislike water, and have grown to love and crave it). Quite a while ago, before I was ever on Phen, I just decided to stop drinking it, and start on water (that didn't last over two months, but that's not the point I'm making). The first week, sans phen, I lost four or five pounds, just from pouring down all that water.

I'm now back to about one diet soda a week (a diet Sprite after horseback riding) but gallons and gallons of water. My skin is clearer, I don't feel as tired, and my joints don't creak anymore. What's great too is that after the first couple of weeks where I was gradually working up to taking in that much water (going from nothing but Diet Coke to suddenly pouring a gallon of water down your throat in a single day is going to make you feel pretty sick), after I worked up to a good amount, I began craving that much, so it's not even a chore to drink it.

I quit smoking New Years Day, then on March 12 I started Phen. By late May I was a smoker again at a pack a day, the Phen made the cravings come back. Today is DAY 2 w/o a smoke. And I just know now that I can't ever have a social smoke. I have quit this time forever. Funny how Phen helped me get rid of food cravings and yet brought back smoking cravings!

I just have to remind myself why I started Phen in the first place! To work as a tool to help me promote good healthy habits such as drink water, exercise, eat right, and smoke a lot???? Sounded funny. Funniest part was that my exercise decreased the past month b/c of my lungs killing me! Good luck!

Actually for the first time in my life I do not crave caffeine! I can even go the mornings without my nice cup of java and even through lunch with out my never ending diet coke. I really don't miss it either, but I must say when I do drink it I get very nervous, to much Phen and caffeine make me crazy! Water, water and more water, some of my co-workers think I have a bladder problem :) nope just not drinking the other stuff!

I quit smoking a long time ago but have been hooke on Nicotine gum. I wasn't sure it I was craving more gum because I tho't it was a diet aid to che instead of reaching for a sweet, or if Phen caused me to crave Nicotine. From hearing everyone else, sounds like the Phen causes the craving. I dont seem to let that habit bother me.

I do drink coffee and diet soda and water still. I don't seem to let that habit bother me either.

I haven't craved alcohol though...one of the things I gave up (not totally but for the most part) when I started dieting on June 19. I haven't missed it because quitting daily drinks has contributed 90% to my weight loss (slow but still losing). For me, I think alcohol has been poison.

Thanks for sharing, everyone, I love reading everyone's experiences.

yes I think quitting the booze will help me also.
One this IS definately for sure the two dont mix. I would advise people here not to drink heavily while on Phen, strange things happen.
