Hi all :)
I have a few questions about Phen. First of all I guess I should say I am 22, mother of 2 toddlers, 5'5 and started at 185 lbs (Saturday). It is now monday and I am down to 179 lbs. 6 lbs in three days?? WOW!!! This I like lol. My concerns however are with my eating & sleeping. Since Saturday I suppose I have eaten enough (in all 3 days) to be considered a small meal. I have NO appetite whatsoever. THe thought of food makes me ill. This is not normal for me at all, I dont think it's supposed to be normal for anyone lol. My other problem is sleeping, I have yet to do it! I feel good don't get me wrong, but surely I cant go on like this the entire time I'm on the meds?? I am not cranky or anything, just a bit concerned about it. I have never been awake this long and been "normal" as I am now. I guess it's just a totally new feeling. ;)
I would really appreciate anyones advice or input, thanks for reading :)

Hi, and Welcome!! I also have just started Phen and this Forum. I haven't weighed myself yet so I can say what my results have been yet. I'm trying to wait a month, but I have noticed my clothes are fitting better... I have done alot of reading and this is what I have gotten in the way of advice:
1.)Drink tons of water a minimum of 8-8oz glass a day. Set a timer every hour if you need a reminder, you really need to make yourself do it(this has even helped my complexion)!!
2.)Move your body At Least 3x a week for 30min. you will feel better if you do and it can also help you sleep.
3.)Eat small, healthy snacks even if you aren't hungry.. your body needs this!!!!!
---I also suggest takeing Melatonin, 1 tablet about an hour before you go to bed.
Melatonin is found in the vitamin, herbal section of most grocery stores/wal-mart/health food stores. It worked for me...
Well I hope this helps some, Good Luck and Congrats on the loss you have had so far :D

Hey, ;)
Thanks so much for the reply :) I have been working on the water thing.. I'm up to 3 big glasses a day, have to choke the last one down lol but I'm doing it :D As far as excersize I am having to do that in moderation, the same time I start taking the Phen I end up in the ER cause I have a cyst on my ovary that is killing me! I excersize as much as I possibly can, but it starts to hurt and I have to stop (dont wanna go back to the ER). I suppose I'm going to have to find a way to work around that. And Melatonin, what exactly is that? I've heard the name but that's it, is it a sleep aid? I've tried tylenol PM with no luck whatsoever. Oh well, lol either I'll get tired or my body will just drop from exaustion ;)
Keep in touch if you don't mind, I;d love to know what your results are :)

My sister also has cysts(she doesn't know if she can even have kids) and she says it is VERY painfull :( Sorry to hear about that!I'm sure you get at least some.. exercise everyday w/ 2 small children. I also have 2 kids, they are both in school so I do a different kind of running around w/T-ball, basketball, wrestling, and so on, a Mommy's work is never done ;)
I'm pretty hopefull about getting good results from Phen, especially after looking at before & after pic's of others on this site. It is very motivating don't you think!
As far as the melatonin goes the first time I took it was about 5 years ago when I took the Phen-Fen combo(I lost 30lbs. on it before we knew how harmful it was) and the Dr. I had at the time told me to try takeing melatonin because I couldn't sleep(I was bug-eyed at 3am it was awful)It is supposed to be a natural sleep aid...

Be careful taking so much Tylenol....it can hurt your liver.
I take Valerian root to help me sleep. It says on the bottle that you should take it 30 minutes before bed, but I need to take a couple hours before I hit the hay so that it kicks in when I go to sleep.
Valerian root can be found with the vitamins in any drug store or Wal-mart.
Some people on this forum suggest 5 HTP too. I am looking into it myself and its supposed to help with night time cravings. Couldn't find that in Wal-mart though.
Your symptom of not wanting to eat at all will subside after a week. You will start to get your appetite back, but I noticed when I do eat, I am able to control my portion size and what it is that I eat.
Congratulations on your weight loss and welcome to the forum!

Hey, :)
Thank you both for the info, I have to go to Wal Mart today so I will have a peek at the vitamin/herbal section. I did actually eat a little last night, some salsa and chips (the low fat kind hehe) It was the first thing that didnt taate awful, I was soo happy lol  I also slept a little last night, so I'm not really concerned anymore. I think I might just be able to do this  I am noticing alot of results from this, and considering I have only been on it 4 days, well im just shocked lol. I have been dieting on and off (only for 2nd pregnancy) for 4 years and haven't lost anything, or I'd lose a little and gain it back. Not this time, this time I will keep it off :) Thanks again for the info, both of you. I must run (2 sickie babies).

Hey, just wanted to reply to your question. It sounds like you are I are basically he same. I am 5'6 and started at 180 lbs. I have been taking phe for a little over a month. I have lost 21 lbs. The sleeping thing does get better. Some nights are better than others. If I really feel like I am not going to sleep, I take one Tylenol PM. Something natural might be better though. As far as not eating that is a day by day thing to. Some days I do not eat at all and others I am more hungry. I have found when try to eat something, that is when I loose the weight. Good Luck, you can do it!

Wow! 21 pounds? You must be so happy! :D I need to lose 50 and I'm bound and determined to accomplish it now, if I can lose 7 (yup, lost another pound YAY!!!) I can lose the rest :) I still am not eating much, lol so far the only thing I've been able to handle at all is salsa and low fat chips, but I figure it's healthy and if my body wants it my body shall get it ;) I did sleep last night, 6 whole hours!!! Of course I was up at 6am bright and early eyes poppin lol. But it gave me a few mins to myself before the kids and hubs got up, it was nice...sorta ;). Thanks for the reply, let me know how well you do, and keep up the great work!!

Jacs:
I am so glad to have read your message post. I have the exact same side effects as you listed. I've been taking Phen for only three days now and from the very beginning day I basically stopped eating. Food absolutely repulses me ~ the sight of it, the smell of it, even the thought of eating! Never in my entire life have I not had food cravings. I am simply not hungry. I know it is not a placebo effect because I can hear my stomach growl, yet it causes no reaction for me to want to eat.
In the three days of taking Phen I have probably consumed four BITES of food ~ chips and salsa (day 1), Nutra-Grain bar (day 2), and tuna (day 3). I FORCED myself to eat SOMEthing. I have constant nausea, dizziness and dry mouth. Are these normal side effects? It is so foreign for me to NOT want food. This drug is amazing and scary at the same time.
The first night I stayed awake the entire night. The second night I managed four or five hours because I took a prescribed sleeping aid. Sleep is hard to come by.
By the way, I am 5'7" and began at 235lbs. The past four years, I slowly (but consistently) gained 100lbs from untreated hypothyroidism. I now have a FANTASTIC doctor who got my thryoid all worked out and put me on Phen for the weight loss. I do not own scales. (Who needs them when you know you're obese??!!) So, I will weigh in only at my doctor's office monthly. But, my jeans sure to fit better.
Again, I was relieved to read your personal side effects. I was beginning to think my doctor had prescribed something way too potent for me. But I will certainly stick with it!
Thanks!

I know exactly what you mean :) I was really concerned at first to, but here I am at day 6 and I am eating semi normally ( I eat 1 small meal and 1-2 small snacks per day) And I don't have to force myself, which is always helpful lol. I do however have to remember (not my strongest point) because I still hardly ever actually feel hungry, but if I remember lol I can eat.
The first three days for me caused the most concern, so far though it has gotten a little better each day and I really feel in my heart that I will FINALLY lose this weight. I only sleep 3-6 hours at night, even with sleep aids, but I figure when I am awake and up and going my metabolism is working better then it is when I'm alseep, so I'll deal :)
Oh yeah, I did have some nausia and dizziness at first, but it's not a real problem anymore. Hang in there!!!
Best Wishes and Prayers for you to reach your goal!

Congrats on your weight losss - that always feels so good when the pounds start to come off! I had a couple of things to mention that people hadn't brought up.
1. Sleep is tough in the first week. I think I was lucky if I had 5 hours a night but I was alert and didn't feel tired. It'll even out. You didn't say what time of day you are taking your meds. If sleep is that hard to get, take it as early in the day as you can. I'm to the point where I can take my pill (30 mg capsule) at noon and still go to bed at 10:30. That is after a month, so see what works for you.
2. Exercise. I had a horrible history with cysts too and I know how painful it can be. I found that gentle exercises such as stretching or yoga were really good for the pain. It helped to ease the tension in my abdomen and actually made some of the pain go away. I also did water aerobics for years because I couldn't feel any pain in the water. It's a great workout and it's very low stress on the lower body. Check with your local high schools or rec centers - most of them with pools have water aerobics classes. That was the only workout I could do until the female troubles got worked out!
good luck to you and hope to see you in the forum. :D

Hello i just wanted to tell you my story i hated water a firend told me to buy a water bottle i did just that a month ago and now i drink 3 gallons of water a day .. as for sleep i take 5 htp it helps with a variety of things as far as exercise well i am single mommy of 2 1/2 twin girls but i also Do tae bo and workout with 3lb weights .. i too also had a problem with cysts my bright doc removed my left ovary at the age of 24 then a month later wanted to remove my right leaving me no female parts well i got a second opinion ... (what if i ever decided to have another babynot anytime soon i can assure you that) well it turns out that he didnt have to remove the left ovary. he did it that way because it was the easy way out jhe could have removed just the cysts but chose not to... i had what they called water cysts now on my only ovary i have left i have multiple cysts but they put me on a birth control pill with a certain way to tkae them to try and dissolve the cysts i too used to have alot of pain i was told when you have pain like that ot go to the emergency room because one could have bursted .. well over time the pill regimen must have worked i can still tell they are there but i think they shrunk... but there is surgery to remove them thatsmy last alternative i mean just remove the cysts it can be done so before you let a doc take your ovary get a second opinion i wish i would have the first time .....

Oh wow, since you are just starting I wouldnt doubt you didnt sleep lol. Take the Pill EARLY in the morning (I take mine at 5am). Take it as early as possible, that will help. I didnt sleep for 3 days when I started, even with taking the pill early, but after that I can sleep a little better. :p
Hope this help

Hi
Just a note if you are taking a tablet you can cut it in half and take that for while untell your body is use to the chemical, I have done this also if I know I am going to have a long night of work ahead of me, though I know if I didn't drink enough water the headache is a tell tail sighn.
Sleeps like a baby most of time though lastnight I was up and down,, thinks it is mainly becouse of sleeping untell almost 5pm after a 12 hour shift! I finally have 3 days off in a row! Yippy.
Now if I could find a cure for the shrinking breast LOL well my hubby say he likes them better becouse I am happier,, works for me. :D
