Hi everyone,
Has anyone out there used Phentermine for more then 3 months? Are there any real side effects for using it for that long of a time. It just seems that when I go off the Phentermine my appetite comes back, when Im on the Phentermine my weight stays where I want it. The only side effect I feel is lightheadness, like I cant think straight, my eyes seem to get blurry at times. Well thanks for any input anyone may have.

I have taken phentermine off and on for a long time. I use it to "maintain" my weight. When I go off of it - my appetite comes back - and I start gaining weight.

Several years ago I took phen for 10 months. I saw my doctor every month and had my blood pressure checked. I was taking 30 mg daily. When I started to come off phen, the doctor told me to take 15 mg every other day. This worked well for me and I didn't experience any withdrawal symptoms. This might not be OK for everyone, but it worked for me.

I got my phentemine from a doctor and he will only let me be on it 5-6 mnths. I know people have been on it longer as they order over the net. He said you cant go back on it for 1 year. This is because of the risk of pulmonary hypertension. I am a little worried about going off but he said I can go on merdia ... Better than nothing but not a effective. I think its great some of the weight loss stories but I would be careful. It may be rare but if you are the unfortun. one to get PPH it if fatal... much of the time.

I have been prescribed phentermine for over 5 years. I never really lost weight, but it relieved the tiredness my doctor prescribed it for. I did not take it every day, but I did keep the prescription filled.

I just received the results of my thryroid test and it is severly underactive. I have also not been fertile. I started hormone treatment for the underactive thyroid and I've gained almost 10 pounds in the last 4 weeks. I could harldy work while coming off the prescription.

I had thyroid tests done before I started taking it, but I wonder if it caused the condition.

I have to say the most irritating thing of all is these doctors that call themselves "thyroid experts". There is no such thing. Any doctor that is treating you for thyroid and tells you that as soon as you start the thyroid hormone replacement you will begin to loose weight is high on some sort of drug.

I have found that the higher the dose you are on, especially if you don't need the high dose, you will gain weight, if you are on a low dose, not getting enough, you will gain weight, if you are on the right dose, you will gain or maintain your weight.

I was hypothyroid diagnosed about 4 yrs ago. I too was not getting my periods and just all together felt like yuck. I went to a midwife to see if she could help me. She said she thought it was a thyroid problem. I went and got tested, sure enough that was the problem. She started me on synthroid, and 1 month later I was unexpectedly pregnant with my son.

Take it slow with the thyroid. It is to be blamed for about 90% of all health problems we incurr.

Hope this helps a little. :D

I used phen for close to a year straight, lost what I needed to and stopped. I use now to maintain. I have had no negative effect to this point.

i have taken Phen since August of last year. I have been at my goal weight and use it to maintain as well. I started a few months ago taking it every other day, which I found hard at first...now I go longer in between to maintain...No problems!! But, now I am worried....Should I stop totally and see what happens? I would hate to think that I was causing damage to my heart!

I have been on the Phentermine for a little over 30 days. I have had my fatigue relieved by taking the Phentermine, but I too have some mild lightheadedness at times and blurry eyes on occassion. Other than that, my fatigue is controlled which is a PLUS for me and I have lost 15 lbs.

Good Intention

I am new to this website but I have taken this medication for about 10 years on and off between my 3 pregnancy's. I lost the weight real fast after my first child but I can only go so far now and then the weight lose stops unless I up the dosage than all these side effects occur. I get very nasty with my husband and have less tolerance with my children not to mention high heart rate abdominal pain some depression and or mood swings. I swore I wouldn't take this anymore because I find myself uping the dosege when the weight lose stops and when your not eating much its hard to cut back. I now weigh a big 180 and I feel horrible about myself so I went online and ordered more but I am only taking 2 or 3 a day at the most, so I am back to sleepless nites and I feel like I am on a high and then I come down. Its weird but mabey someone can relate. I really wanna lose the weight and it seems like in order to do it i have to pratically eat nothing and up the meds but I no this isn't the right or healthy way to do it and I have 3 beatuiful kids to take care of but I really don't no any other way anymore. I smoke when I take this but when I don't take the meds I don't smoke but I can sure eat! At nite my body feels tired but it seems like my mind is going and going. If i force myself to sleep I get a big headache. Well I went for a cardia workup and I am ok. Just have to lose some weight. Well thanks for listening and any advice or suggestions is greatly appreciated cause I o the only people who can relate to me would be people on this medication, others just say watch what you eat and exercise well its easier said than done, I think for over all these years I really messed up my metabolism.

Originally posted by Casharose:Thank you for responding. I know what you mean by u want to sleep cause your tired but your mind keeps on going. When u say you increase your dose does that mean you take 2 or 3 pills(do you only take the 15 mg ones)I know excercise does help but sometimes I truly dont have the time and these diet pills really help me keep the weight off without exercising. Every month I say Im gonna quit but I havent yet. So far no major side effects and I've been to Dr's for complete check up and all is well. Well good luck to you.
