I've been on and off of phen for almost two years now. I've lost a ton of weight (125lbs) but recently gained 30 back so I got back on the phen. I do notice that when I'm on phen I'm a happier person. I'm full of "ideas" and actually take steps working to get them done. When I'm not on phen, my energy level goes way down. Does this mean I will have to take phen for the rest of my life or just be a grumpy old woman????

I would love to know this also! I was on phen for two months last year. I felt great with lots of energy - I felt calm in stressful situations - I felt like I think I should always feel (normal). I told my dr. this and he said he could not prescribe phen because it made me feel good but he did tell me that it raised the level of something starting with an e (epinephrine????) causing this and that he did have other drugs that did the same thing that he could prescribe- like paxil or prozac they both raise this level in the brain - well I had heard so many stories about these drugs and just did not feel that I was depressed so I never persued getting them.
Also I read in the phen side effects that some people experience a sense of well-being while taking phen.
All I know is even after only two months I missed being on it called the dr. he said he should have weened me off of the drug because it was causing me to feel depressed. I suffered and survived. But I am getting ready to go back on a prescription I ordered online and want to read anything possible about the above post.
Thanks Zanney for asking this question!

I can tell you that I was on Zoloft (equivilant to prozac) and it did nothing for me. It made me feel mellow, tired, didn't care about anything. Phen gives me energy and I'm happy. I don't even think about food. I think it is how a normal person feels. I don't worry about eating. I'm happy. I want to feel like this all the time, but know that being on Phen forever is not an option...what is??? Let me know if you find out anything.

I had the "happy" feeling when I was on the combo FEN/Phen. Fenfluramine is similar to Prozac. When it was ripped off the market, I was taking only Phentermine. I definitely noticed a change in my "happy mood". I've been on Phentermine for almost 5 years and I think my body has become "immune" to it. (I've kept MOST of my weight off, but not all.) I had a question in my Post (under "Other Meds. vs. Phentermine). No one has yet to reply to it though.. you might want to read it. If you have any info on MY question, or know someone who does, I'd like to know since I have a Dr's apt. in 2 weeks.
If you have other questions about Phen, let me know since I've been on it so long. I'm fortunate to have a Dr. who realizes that weight management does not last long-term without some type of medication for many people (not necessarily ALL people).

I have noticed the same thing- I have alot more energy and determination to get things done. I am much calmer and generally happier than I had been prior to taking Phen. I was Welbutrin SR for a month or so it helped, but never made me feel this normal. My mother in Law has been on and off Phen since the early 80's. One day I hope to get to a point where I don't need it- but right now I know that is not possible. I don't want to gain back what I have lost.

New to forum and phen, but a vet of antidepressants. My family has a history of depression, and I have been on paxil, prozac, wellbutrin, you name it. Finally felt better with Celexa. So, that's what I am on. My body metabolized the others too fast. Plus, I had that tired and listless feeling that everyone above talked about. And, I've always been a binger.
Just started phen this week. Wow! Is this what being normal is? I feel so great, tons of energy. Don't even think about food, but fueling my body. But I am having trouble sleeping through the night. But still feel like I could run 5 miles and it's almost midnight. I feel focused as well. I'm worried about going off as well, but for now I will focus on the weight loss!!

If you are unusually focused on phentermine (thoughts clear, you can "stick" with stuff for more than a few days, you remember stuff more often, etc) you may have adult ADD. The condition is real and it can be treated with meds other than phentermine. I noticed that the only time my head seemed to clear was when i was on phentermine, since then I've gone to a psychiatrist who has diagnosed me with ADD and depression (apparently the result of the frustration ADD brings). I've been put on Paxil (which was great for the first week but isn't so great now) and will be put on adderol in two weeks (for the ADD). Anyway, a good book to look at if you think you may have ADD is Driven to Distraction. When my doctor suggested that I might have ADD I thought they were pretty stupid, but since then i've become a believer.

I have also gotten a slight "high" from the phentermine since I began taking it. However, I do not fear the day when I will stop taking it because I figure the decrease in that feel-good sensation caused by the phentermine will be more than offset by the increase in the feel-good sensation caused by being thin. Of course, I'm also an optimist.

Oh girls.... *lol*
There's a reason this stuff makes you feel good! And a reason it makes some feel anxious, paranoid, mean, etc.
Phen is made specifically to immitate amphetimines. It has a similar molecular structure to both amphetimines and methamphetimines. I think this site has a diagram...
And where do you find amphetimines?? Well, in drugs like cocaine *lol*. And of course the drug "meth" is a methamphetimine.
Now think about how you feel on the phen... then multiply that by about 4 *lol* :)
Can you find a new understanding of drug addicts now???
Actually, if you had to take a drug test, depending on what all drugs they specifically tested you for, you could come out positive for amphetimines, because of the phen in your system! It can actually cause a positive drug test *lol*
Anyway.... that was just for those of you who didn't know. It REALLY explains those feelings, huh? ;)
The first day I took my phen was just this past Saturday, and I was up ALLLL night. Literally! By about 6 in the morning I was trying SO hard to sleep, but it just wouldn't happen. I dozed off for about 20 minutes three different times, but couldn't stay asleep. Although I slept just fine last night!
I felt great from it, but I also felt like a crack head *lol* All strung out! :)
But soon we'll all build up a tolerance just like the other drug addicts out there, so if you lose that good feeling.... skip a day or two and go back on it. You should be able to get a little rush going again! ;)
