hI! i just started phen for the first time this week. Doing ok except I haven't slept in three nights. I'm worried because I get menstrual migraines and my doctor said I could not take imitrex or any other pain med
while I'm taking phen. Any suggestions for warding off migraines or meds I can take?
Also, has anyone had any side effects from drinking liquor and taking phen?

Sleep deprivation is very dangerous to the immune system. Your body will not be able to fight off ANY infection. I came down with a severe bacterial blood infection last year due to sleep dep, so I know all about this. It can be life threatening without you realizing it. I notice that if I take 30mg one day, I can still feel it the next day. Then taking more just aggrivates the tension. I had to modify my dosage to 15mg. You might be taking too much or taking it too late in the day. Muscle tension will also result sometimes with this med, so you might want to take a day off from the meds because jaw tension will cause migranes, and muscle tension behind the eyes will also cause migranes (I get these badly) and the phen makes it worse if your eyes are fatigued. GET SOME SLEEP!

Thanks for the advice! Your right, I've been
clinching my teeth since I started on Phen and my neck muslces are so tight I could cry. I'm hoping this will go away soon. I've got a party to attend Saturday night, so
I think I will skip phen that day since I will be drinking. Maybe I will be able to sleep good too. Do you know if there are any pain meds/muscle relaxers etc. that I can take along with phen. My doctor told me I had to wait 72 hours after taking phen before I can take anything for a migraine but if I get a migraine, I cannot wait that long or I'll get physically sick!! thanks again...

I know how sick those migranes can make you! I dont know of anything for a migrane that will work- I usually have to go back to bed---in the past I have tried stronger pain meds for a migrane, but they just make you more nauseated. I havent actually tried muscle relaxers for the migranes, that would be an option, if the doc says the meds go together.
I do notice that my migranes start with muscle strain behind my eyes, and if I ignore it, I am laid out for the day. A couple of times I actually felt that coming on, and have prevented the severity by "massaging" my jaw, temple, facial, and eye muscles; and when I would neglect to do that, I would throw up at the peak of the migrane. Something to ponder. I hope that you are feeling better soon! Take Care.

TTF-
I'm glad you posted this - I get my phen online and so am not under a doc's care, but I get migraines too - usually related to that time of the month. I have Imitrex and didn't know if it was safe to use with phen or not. I don't know what I'll do if I get a migraine and I can't take anything for it - waiting 72 hours is just not an option!! LOL Each one I get is worse than the last- the last one had me throwing up about 20 times. ICK!! I don't know if I've just been lucky or what, but I haven't had a migraine since I started on phen in October (knocking on wood). THANK GOODNESS!! Did your doc say what could happen if you do take Imitrex while on phen? Did he offer any alternatives? Please let me know if you learn anything more about this. THANKS!!

i've also noticed jaw tension since starting a few days ago; however, instead of headaches, i get blocked ears. i've noticed the beginnings of headaches, but they never develop which is nice, because i can get some bad headaches sometimes.

I get monthly migraines, too. The only thing that helps me is Xanax and two Excedrin. If I catch it right at the start - this usually stops it cold. If I wait too long, and let the headache really get going, NOTHING helps.
Stronger pain meds make me nauseous, too. Isn't that the pits?

My doctor wouldn't tell me "why" I couldn't take imitrex with phen. I tried to look it
up on the internet but have not found any controdictions between imitrex/phen. Nevertheless, I am still concerned about taking them together. My migraines are menstrual also and I haven't gotten one since
I started phen...I've had tension headaches and taken xanax. This seemed to help plus I was able to sleep. My doctor gave me a B 12 shot and prescribed potassium along with the phen. I'm not sure what the these are supposed to do for me. Does anyone else know?
