This really doesn't have anything to do with Phen, but does anyone own a front load washer and dryer and if you do....do your towels (and just about ONLY towels...) reek like funky mildew? HELP...Im tired of going to Kohls every few weeks to replace the bad ones. I have tried everything, and they just smell....

I had that problem last summer but not yet this summer yet. I think the only way to avoid it was to wash on hot, pull them out of the washer as soon as it stopped, and dry them on high heat so as to minimize the amount of time that they were actually wet. I'm thinking that helped my situation last summer. I never did find out why it was happening though.

Good luck!

I looked at those and the guy at Lowe's said, depending on which kind you have, that the rubber seal around the door can mildew or water is getting trapped somewhere in the machine itself. I would find a repairman not associated with Kohl's, maybe one you can trust, to at least look at it and give you an opinion. One company has lawsuits because of their models but I can't remember which one. Whoever it is has just about gone bankrupt because of them. Hope that helps.

Are you buying the same kind of towels? Maybe that's the problem.

Well, if it's the machine.. big problem.

If its the towels... I would try putting some oxyclean in with your wash and maybe a little bleach. When the agitator starts, stop the machine and let the load soak for about 10-15 mintues. Then run the rinse cycle twice... this should really get the load clean. Be sure to put into the dryer right away so the mold can't start.

With all loads if you stop during the washing cycle and let sit for 10-15 then resume.. you will find your clothes get cleaner. Soaking in the soap for a little longer makes all the difference. I use Tide powder and LOVE it...

That would be great, but you can't open a front loader while it's running....Nope all towels stink. I should call again the manufacturer, they told me to leave the door open when not using, but that hasn't helped.

I don't have a front load washer, but have had mildew smell on clothes before as a result of leaving them in the washer too long (went out of town & forgot I had a load in the washer). Vinegar works magic! Add a cup of vinegar to the smelly towels in the wash and the odor will be gone.

I use vinegar in the wash to take out other smells as well. Dog bed, blankets used camping, etc.

I have several friends who have these issues. They finally were told they MUST!!!!!!!!! use the High Efficiency ...or whatever that is called..laundry detergent.

It's super $$, but has to be cheaper than new towels all the time and the aggrivation it is causing you.
