Supermom,
Congratulations, Your first goal is within arms reach. Are you still taking the phentermine while on the Atkins? How long have you been taking the phentermine? I am so concerned about when I lose the weight, I want to be able to maintain it. I follow an 1500 cal/day diet and work out 5 times a week. But before I started taking the phentermine, I lost a pound a week.

I plan to start taking my Phen this coming Saturday-provided I get it in the mail tomorrow as I'm told. I also will follow the Atkins diet.. just minus the induction period, I never make it through that point. I think the 2 combined should be excellent for me!

I have been on phentermine for about 4 months, an I have lost 30 lbs. I have reached a point where the phen does not seem to be working for me. I maintain the weight, but i am not loosing anything. When I got off of the phen for a month or so, I started to gain. I have now started doing the Atkins induction phase along w/ my phen. I am hoping that this will get my body into fat burning mode, and kick off my weight loss again. I only have 20 lbs to go to reach my goal I started out in a size 20 and am now in a 16. I just want to fit comfortably in a 12/14. I wanted to set a realistic goal for myself. If you have any advice or info on phen w/ atkins, I will really appreciate it.

Just be careful with the Atkins! If you EVER go off it or even eat one piece of bread or something, you will gain! Have you done Atkins before? I did Atkins 2 years ago starting in May. By mid July I lost 25 lbs and stayed there! My lifestyle may be different than yours. I'm married with 2 small children and we go to our cabin almost every weekend (party time - pretty much). I managed to keep of the 25 lbs for 13 months and then slowly gained it back and then some since last August. Everytime I tried to get back on it, it would only maybe last a day or so (which did help). But then I came to realize that it wasn't for me I guess. So know I'm doing the 1200 cal a day. I've only been doing it since Monday but it's not bad at all and at least I can eat almost anything I want. My sister lost 50 lbs on Atkins and can't reach her goal weight which is another 20 lbs. She also started 2 years ago. She keeps gaining 5 or 10 and then losing it. I hope it works for you! The only reason my sister has kept it off is because she works nights and whatever she takes to work is all she eats (low carb) and then on the weekends she screws up. Actually I think it depends on your lifestyle. I'm home all the time (daycare) and cook for my family. She does not. Don't know what else to tell ya. GOOD LUCK!

I think it's awesome that there are other low carbers in this forum! It's the ONLY diet that's ever worked for me. Two years ago, I lost 20 pounds in a month on it--went from 140 to 120--and went off the diet, and kept it off for about a year! What I learned from the diet was that eliminating sugar and starches really helps you slim down, so after the weight loss I sort of did a modified version of it for maintenance.
Then...I got pregnant and decided to eat whatever I wanted because I knew low carb was not an option for pregnancy. And I must say it was fun while it lasted, but I did gain over 50 lbs! Yikes!
Now, here I am :) trying to lose my post pregnancy weight with Atkins (pretty much the same 20 pounds and then some) and it is coming off MUCH slower :( . But I have been eating too many sugar free sweets (not good for induction) and haven't had the discipline to follow it to a 'T'.
Anyway I just want you to know that it does work and I think it's a good way to eat, as long as you don't stay in induction and make sure to eat your veggies and take fiber.
Almost forgot--it works beautifully with the phen, but make sure you force yourself to eat otherwise the diet won't work. Good luck!!!
