I wanna know about taking Phentermine and having an ED. I am a 41yr old woman who has suffered from Bulimia sinnce I was 12yrs old. Three years ago I got phentermine online and amazingly discovered that with Phentermine I don't binge & purge. How bad is it to continue taking phentermine? I have been on 15-30mg for 3yrs. Anyone know anything about this?

I seem to remember reading that phen used to be used as an antidepressant, so it seems reasonable to me that it could help with binging and purging. However, you really might consider talking to a doctor about it since it isn't approved for long term use. You wouldn't want to replace bulemia for a heart problem!

I don't know anything about your history of and treatment for bulemia, so I hope this doesn't sounds judgemental because I honestly don't mean it that way, but you might want to consider that taking a drug to avoid binging and purging doesn't help solve the problem of WHY you are binging and purging in the first place. I have an ED (compulsive overeating) and spent three years in therapy to learn what was setting me off and how to handle it. Just food for thought (no pun intended).

Unfortunately there is no magic drug like that...but, fortunately, I am very educated with ED's. I think that is why others on this site whom are suffering with Bulimia have also been quite amazed that the drug does this for them. Yes, I am in therapy twice a week...thank you so much for your help. Blessings.

Phentermine can't cure bulimia nervosa.

One of the main diagnostic criteria of bulimic behavior is binging - obviously, phentermine (or any appetite suppressant) cuts down on the binging. If you don't binge, you don't meet the criteria for bulimia. Also, if you don't binge, you probably won't purge either.

The fact is, unless you address the root of your behavior problems, you will never cure it. Especially if your solution is phentermine (and phen's effects will wear off as your body builds tolerance to it). Once phen is no longer effective, your propensity to binge and purge will come right back.

You need to tell your therapist you're using phentermine, I'm sure he or she will tell you that replacing bulimia with a phentermine dependency is no better a solution.

AJ, is so right, phentermine is definitly not a cure, you cant continue to take phentermine, and depend on it helping you not to binge and purge, I was laxative dependent for awhile and I still face other ED issues, but it wasnt until I wanted to become a healthier me that I decided to use phentermine as a tool for healthy eating, and controlling my eating habits, you do need to tell your therapist and a doc about you taking phentermine.

What you are doing is replacing one compulsive habit with another, its not that its helping you with the other its that you found something else to become more dependent on, thats why you been taking them so long....You need to continue to get help, why, cause you are still looking for a way out...I wish you the best, thin do feel great, but being alive and free fells even greater.Good Luck
