I'm currently taking phen, but my dad is taking diethylpropion(sp?) or tenuate. Anyone have any experience with this? And if so do you like it better than phen?

I took Tenuate Dospan in the '80s. Worked fine for me, although it made me kind of jittery.

I have never used it, but a couple of friends did. I researched it using Medline and looked at other medical journals. Here is what I found:
Diethylpropion (medical review):
Introduced in 1960, diethylpropion is available as Tenuate, 25 mg (usually taken 3 times daily) or Tenuate Dospan, 75 mg (extended release, once daily). In the longest double-blind, placebo-controlled diethylpropion study, weight loss at both the 6- and 12-month follow-ups was less in the drug-treated patients than in the placebo-treated patients at 7.0 vs 8.7 kg and 8.9 vs 10.5 kg, respectively. (this means the drug group lost less weight than the group taking a sugar pill!)
In separate shorter placebo-controlled trials, DeRamos and McKay reported weight loss after 6 months of diethylpropion treatment to be 7.8 to 11.7 kg, compared with 1.9 to 2.5 kg in placebo-treated patients. (the drug group lost more than the group taking sugar pills). This article is by Gary Glazer in the Archives of Internal Medicine, August 13, 2001 v161 i15 p1814 titled "Long-term Pharmacotherapy of Obesity"
Duration of Action:
4 hours, 25 mg immediate-release tablets
10-14 hours, controlled-release tablets
Now from my friends and internet stuff:
It works good for cravings, but lose effects in about 3 weeks of continuous use. But it is great for if you have cravings. Again, I have never used it. I use regular old phen.

www . *************** . com / dep . html
Just take the spaces out and combine it. Or do a search for Anorectic drugs in *****. I think it's a featured site.

Hi Everyone.....Newbie here. I am going to a Dr. for my scripts. My doc will prescribe Adipex (37.5 mg), then switch me to Fastin (30 mg)to take in the morning and (2) Tenuate (25 mg)to take in the afternoon. Just so my body doesn't get so used to any of them. She will switch them every month or 2, depending on how I am doing - weight loss wise.
Does anybody else do this?
BTW.....Glad to be here. :D You all seem like a great bunch to get to know...for support and friendship.

So far so good. I was taking phen a couple of years ago and I did get so used to them that they started not doing anything for me. I kept taking them for about 6 weeks when I realized they weren't working (Stupid, I know), just to see if it was because of something else. I told my Doc this when I started in March and she said that that happens to alot of people. So, we're trying this method. I have a friend that has used this method of switching for about 6 months, and she is still very pleased. So.....

I started on the tenuate last week and stopped after one day. It really did nothing for my appetite and I actually took a nap at about 11:00 in the morning. But, this does not mean it will do this to everyone. I tend to react a little strangely to most medications. Pain medication gives me energy while the ten made me tired. Go figure. I am now on Phen-pro for the third day and it is working great and I feel wonderful.
Yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
