....I'm wondering if I should go back to Tenuate Dospan, a drug that helped me lose 40+ pounds in the early '80s and I took it off and on until about 1991 when I needed to lose weight. It was successful! My doc just called in Meridia 15 mg. #30 and I'll see him for a follow-up in a month. One of the reasons I might switch to Tenuate Dospan, is the PRICE! Meridia is $106+ at Costco, while TD is $30.39 (75 mg) for 30. I remember how it used to make me feel kind of jittery and almost nauseuous at times, but in a way, I liked that feeling because it reminded me I wasn't hungry. :) I've only been on the Meridia for 5 days and I feel virtually no effects. I had dry mouth at first, but I honestly wonder if it's more psychological that I'm not eating as much because I paid so much for them! :) I'm also wondering if I should ask my doctor for Phentermine 37.5 instead of the Tenuate Dospan. It's even cheaper at $27.19. I guess I figure if the Tenuate Dospan worked, than I should stick with it! If it ain't broke, don't fix it! :) What do you think? I guess I'll just ask my MD to give me an ** for TD and let him know if it doesn't work or makes me feel too weird, I'll ask for Phen 37.5. Thanks for listening!

tell me what your side effects were with this Tenuate Dospan? My Mom's on it and says it works better than Phentermine. I'm use to Phentermine, and don't know about TD. I'm think I might be getting use to the phentermine, I'm still hungry- only now my lips are chapped. Ugh.

Regarding Tenuate Dospan (75 mg), I was on and off of it for close to 10 years. When I had to lose 44 lbs. in the early '80s. it really gave me the edge I needed to stick with my diet. It kind of made me jittery some days, but not always. It did seem to give me energy. I think with any diet drug I've taken, some of it's psychological and if I really want it to work, it does. There were some days when I just KNEW nothing was going to keep me from eating what I wanted, so I didn't "waste" a pill. :)Tenuate Dospan really helped me get to my goal and I used it now and then when I felt I needed that extra "edge". I was lucky that I was a nurse for an OB-GYN and he wrote me an ** whenever I wanted and the clinic pharmacist had a standing order for me with a great discount! Those were the days! I'm going to tell my internist that Tenuate Dospan worked for me and ask for an ** since it's so much less than Meridia. I want to try it to see if it works the same. And, then I'll ask if I can also try Phentermine 37.5, too, to compare. I don't want him to think I am a diet pill junkie, but I want to find one that works AND is the cheapest to buy! :)

I heard Meridia has caused some life threatening side effects!
I thought they took it off the market? I would switch from Meridia and try Phentermine or the other med that you were taking years ago.

has the meridia worked so far for you. so far i have only seen one person it has worked for. i go back to the dr. in 3 weeks, if it does not work, i am going to ask her for something else. a girl at work just got a new prescription for something a little stronger but she has not changed her diet at all so she has not lost anything. I have been on the meridiia for a week and i certainly do not have a appetite. but there is too much controversy behind it so i my stop taking it.

Xenical anyone? I am wondering about anyone's experiences with xenical. It is not an appetite suppressant, but it works in the digestive system by causing 1/3 of fat taken in to not be absorbed. If you do eat something with high fat, supposedly, the bathroom cannot be found fast enough. Maybe this is what I need to keep me 'straight.' I have only been taking it for two days. My doctor wouldn't give me phentermine.

I have never taken xenical but my Dr. wanted to give me that instead of the phen. I did some research on my own and conviced him I wanted to try phen. Anything can work if you do the right things. The reason I wanted phen was for help with appetite control which I don't think the xenical does. Also I have a lot of weight to lose and couldn't see long term use of xenical. If you really want to try phen and your Dr. won't give it to you go to another Dr. Anyways--good luck to you.

xenical helps if you do not want to gain weight or if you can cut your calories down to what they suggest. if not you will experience the side effects of LOTS of gas, and very (i know this is very disgusting) oily bathroom stuff. they recommend you do not go over the recommending fat grams. if you dont then you will not experience the side effects. hope this helps.

Okay, here is my 2 cents...I took Merdia and felt absolute nothing, not even dry mouth, a friend of mine gave them to me because she had the same results. My cousin started off on phen and then switched to Tenuate when phen was no longer effective. My doctor gave me a sample of Xenical and I was afraid to try it because I read all the information on the internet. I had my cousin (the same one) try it. She said it didn't work on the first day but after about 2.5 days she had the worse stuff coming out of her. She said she couldn't even control it, it just slid out. I know that sounds gross :( but that sure convinced me that I wasn't interested in that! I will probably stick with phen until it is no longer working to suppress my appetite then move on to Tenuate. Maybe I will reach goal on phen (70lbs from now!) Good luck, whatever you decide.
