Britney,
Wow, that is a lot of weight to lose in that amount of time. The first couple of days (i am on day 5) i have lost a total of 7. I would definately contact a doctor, sound like you have a circulatory problem (of course I am not a doc). Just to be safe check with your doc, especially if your doctor prescribed the meds. Good luck!!! Wishing you health and happiness.

Thank you. I started weighing 184 and now I am 167 and I have just taken it for a couple of days. to tell you the truth I don't feel good, I feel sick, I just got a cold. What is a circulatory problem?

Thanks

Britney,
A circulatory problem is just the way your blood flows through your body and to your extremities (hands, feet, face etc.) I felt kind of sick as well. I went to the doc though and found out I have a kidney infection so now I think I can say it is not the phen! I can't believe that weight loss....that is amazing. If I lost that much I would be thrilled but looking from the other side it seems worrisome. I have been told though that it can happen with phen. Best of luck and hope you feel better soon. I feel better today than I have felt in the past few. The side effects of the phen are beginning to diminish....woo hoo! Hope all goes well with you!!!

If you're hand is turning white and the nailbeds are turning blue, it sounds like you aren't getting blood to it for some reason. That's not a good sign, and one you should take to a doctor. I'm not trying to scare you, and it might not have anything at all to do with your taking phen. But this is you HAND. You do not want to lose it, and any body part that stops getting blood flow will begin to die. Please go see a doctor and let us know when you are better.

WOW, I didn't think it was that serious. My hands were just fine before the Phen, just today I lost another 2 pounds and it is not water weight because I drink a lot of water. To tell you the truth I am scared to go to the doctor becuase when I asked him to give it to me I practically begged him and he said "don't come grawling back when you get sick". I think that I may want to stop taking it, I have only taken it for about 6 days and I went from 184 to 165. Plus for some reason I am getting really depressed. My doctor gave me Zoloft but I didn't take it because I heard it makes you gain weight. I don't know what to do, should I stop taking Phen? But its helping me lose weight.

Any advice

I can't tell you what you should or shouldn't do in good conscience because I don't have the background knowledge or the info about what's going on. It just sounds very, very odd that you're got these symptoms and they started when the phen did. I have never heard of these side effects with this drug - it is relatively safe as it's been around for 50 years. But every body is different, and yours doesn't like something that's going on. Is it both hands? What about other extremities?

As for the depression, it could or could not be the phen. Again, the only way to test this would be to stop taking the phen and see if things improve. There are other anti-depressive drugs that do not have a weight gain history such as wellbutrin - you could ask him about that. But if you are depressed, above all else, you need to either medicate it with the right **, or get into cognitive therapy to help your thinking. Depression will change your perspective in every aspect of your life.

I don't know your history with your doctor, but do you have the option to go to a different one? I believe there's a board on this site that helps people find dr's in their area that will prescribe. Regardless of his medical opinion, he is obligated to help you when you are sick. It is what you pay him for, not to judge you. Some people here were turned down by the doctors, bought it on their own, and their doctor eventually wrote them an ** so they would be sure to get the real thing and not a gimmick that was unsafe.

YOu have to decide that, but don't let fear of the unknown keep you from taking control of the fear of the known (like potentially harmful side-effects!). Sending good thoughts your way.

Thanks for the advice. I need to see my dcotor but he will probably stop me from taking it again. I have so far lost about 20 pound and it hasn't even been about 1 and a half weeks.

You lost a lot of weight in a very very short time, that is not good. You should inform your doctor. Too much weight loss too fast would cause your body harm than good. Good luck to you.

There is no physical way you are losing that much fat. Your body is cannibalizing itself, meaning it's using your muscle for fuel. Muscle weighs more than fat, sure. But it is also the very thing that burns calories. You may get the scale to go down, but you will end up fatter because when you stabilize or eat again, the body will start storing extra calories as fat for future use. The body is more efficient at creating fat stores than at building muscle.

I have done the same thing - crash dieted - and ended up with a larger percentage of fat on this frame of mine than ever before, further perpetuating the cycle of being overweight.

Have you ever read any muscle building magazines or forums? There are some very educated physiologists who write for some of the magazines, who do a much better job of explaining it than I can.

Thank you. Yes, I am pretty sure that I am lossing muscle but no worries I have fianlly realized that what I was doing was wrong. I am eating healthier now and exercising. Sure the weight loss slowed down but at least I feel a lot better. Thank you so much for you concern and advice it has helped a lot.

So I take things went ok at the doc's? Thanks for updating. Keep reading here and get the support you might need to keep doing it a healthier way. It's hard when we want it so bad and so quick. Good luck.

Hey there, yeah thanks. I realized that I didn't put the weight on overnight so I can't expect to take it off that fast. I am not setting my weight goal for a longer period of time. Thank you all so much for all of your support, you all have helped me out so much and I really thank you for that.

Hi! Just wanted to let you know that if you are still depressed that taking the Zoloft is fine - it will not increase your appetite - it will decrease it if anything (per my Nursing Drug Reference book). I am also on Zoloft with no problems.

It takes a while to get our minds straight. Losing weight fast seems ideal - but not for your overall health in the long run. Doing it slowly by changing eating habits and incorporating exercise will keep that weight off forever! Good Luck!
