Cats, if they are going to be outdoors, need a rabies shot (cost HERE for a one year vac is $7) and should also be vaccinated for a BUNCH of other diseases. They call it a seven-in-one....HERE it is about seventeen dollars a pop at the vet...or you can go cheaper and get a do-it-yourself package at a farm and feed supply place. Easy as one-two-three.
The spay/neuter operations can be a little pricey, depending on where you live and which vet you use. Get on the horn and call a couple of local vets and ask them where someone on a tight budget like yourself can get some cats fixed. Also do an internet search for low-cost spay and neuter programs in your area. Should take a whole five seconds max.
Good luck.
Just remember that when you allow the cats to become dependant on you for food, etc, that you can't just leave them to fend for themselves when you and the ball and chain build up. Better to find them a good home yourselves, or turn them into a shelter.
