From all the reading I've done you can not "target" a certain spot. You can strength or weight train and that will tone your muscles and in the long run burn more fat, but I can not stress cardio, cardio, cardio..... Sorry that you are so uncomfortable. The firm has a really good lower body workout and I love what my exercise bike has done for my legs and rear view. Hope this helps, Tammy
