Answer

There is not just one type of phentermine but several that are available on the market. Some are branded versions and many are what are known as generic phentermine pills. The majority of tablets and capsules have some blue or yellow colouring.

Generic phentermine
According to the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) generic drugs are identical or bioequivalent to the brand named version. This means that for all intents and purposes brand name and generic drugs are the same. This includes dose, strength, method of administration, safety, efficacy and intended use.

While all phentermine pills contain phentermine hydrochloride which is the substance that causes the appetite suppressant, all diet pills are also made up of inactive ingredient which is what makes them look different.

Strength of phentermine
The major factor that does changes the effects that you get from taking a phentermine diet pill is the amount of active ingredient it contains. This is known as 'Strength' of the pill. The active ingredient in all types of phentermine pills is Phentermine Hydrochloride.

The two phentermine diet pills below are all equivalent because they both contain 30 mg of phentermine and should in theory have the same effect on a patient.

Eon Yellow
Generic Phentermine 30mg
Manufacturer/Distributor:
Sandoz Pharmaceuticals Inc
Strength
Phentermine 30mg
Imprint code/s
E 647

Eon Blue

Generic Phentermine 30mg
Manufacturer/Distributor:
Sandoz Pharmaceuticals Inc
Strength
Phentermine 30mg
Imprint code/s
E 5000

The two phentermine diet pills shown above are both made by Sandoz (formerly Eon labs). They are generic versions of phentermine which have been on the market for some time. From the information below it is easy to see that they resemble two of the phentermine brands that were originally available in the US but have been withdrawn or discontinued.

Ionamin - discontinued in the US, available in Australia.

Ionamin

Ionamin

Celltech Pharmaceuticals Inc

Ionamin is a time release version of phentermine. The phentermine is mixed with resin to slow the release of phentermine into the body and therefore prolong the effects of phentermine. The all yellow capsules contain 30mg of phentermine. There is no generic slow release equivalent to Ionamin.

Fastin - Fastin that contains phentermine has been removed from the US market

Fastin
